Maiden voyage of the garage gym.

I determined Front Squat (335) and Sumo Deadlift (405) maxes for next training cycle. Pretty happy with my numbers. Haven't hit a heavy squat in two months and haven't deadlifted in two years.

CSW, just got back from the range. The GP100 did amazingly well. Built like a tank. My girlfriend, who was only on her 3rd or 4th range trip ever, hit 5 out of 6 rounds at 25 feet in the center ring on all 4 cylinders it she ran through it, with each of her 1 flyaway rounds only barely outside. Not the .38s, she shot like that with full house Gold Dot 125-grain .357s (we ran both).

Great gun. Very happy. Thanks again for a great trade.

Because these knives need to be shown off and they're mine :-)
I apologize in advance for the lack of quality of the simple iPhone photos compared to what people show here but I hope enough detail shows up.

Joe Watson, every so often, makes some "off catalog" knives that are truly works of art.

Here are (r-l): the Alamo Special with curly maple handle, the Frontiersman with antique curly maple, another Alamo Special with vintage paper micarta.

10565

Here are the specs.
Alamo Special (Taken from Monkey Edge site):
A brand new design from Joe, the Alamo Special has influences from the famous Bowie type blade. This is one of the very first of the model, which is still being finalized in design, making this a "prototype" of sorts. The .140 inch thick clip point profile blade brings excellent versatility, lets you get the tip into harder to reach spaces, makes for a great slicer and brings the tip more centered in line with the whole knife.

The Blade: Hand ground from W2 steel, the blade has been differentially heat treated. This results in a tougher inner layer/cutting edge with a softer and protective outer layer, easy to see from the hamon on the blade.

The Handle:
Special #1: The Handle: Made from curly maple, the handle has been sculpted to allow extra grip, and the profile locks right into your hand.
Special #2: Made from vintage paper micarta, the handle has been sculpted to allow extra grip, and the profile locks right into your hand.

• Overall Length: 7.75 in
• Blade Length: 4 in
• Cutting Edge Length: 3.5 in
• Blade Thickness: .140 in
• Weight: 4.1 Ounces
• Blade Material: Differentially heat treated W2

Frontiersman (taken from Watson site): This knife is inspired by knives carried on the American frontier, this is my take on the concept.
Double edged knife
5/32" thick deferentially hardened (hard edge, spring tempered body) W2 carbon steel. Flat ground with visible temper line
7.75" OAL, 3.75" blade. Blade width is nearly 1.5"
Antique brown curly maple handle with nickel silver pins

Close up of the blade.

Frontiersman: polished so thoroughly that you can see the reflection of my hands, making the hamon (a true hamon) difficult to see; the rougher looking flat close to the handle are something he does for looks, it's as smooth to the touch as the blade itself.

10566

Alamo Special: the hamon here is clearly visible and very individual to the knife, showing the level of work that Joe Watson put into the blades.

10567

10568

So that we're clear, these are NOT art knives. These are extremely functional and incredibly sharp knives. Joe Watson does extraordinary work.

I think he just stopped for a while and I assume it's because he has been quite busy with his own designs (especially those that aren't part of his regular catalog) and going to shows like Blade and USN.

A couple of months ago he did write, though, that he expected to be back at doing CP mods at some point. I've no idea when that would be.

Is that a SIG red dot on that thing? How are you liking it?

We just started selling them about a month ago. I was initially pretty leery based on the previous SIG red dots but the quality of the new ones seems top notch and the price point is great. Designed in Oregon (cool!) but made in China, which is to be expected given the price. Advertised 40,000 hour battery life with an auto shut off feature, motion activated, works great so far and no complaints from the folks I've sold them to. Not sure how much I trust the claw mount, originally wanted to stick with irons but with the arm brace on the gun I have to crank my head down at a damn near 90 degree angle to see through the sights. Will update with overall function after I get my John McClane on this Sunday.

Because that's what you do when you discover you need to replace a good chunk of your sewer drain stack (ABS pipe cracks, and it sucks, and it hates you.) Also took a couple days to paint it white before putting it in. Rust-Oleum white appliance paint (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-1-qt-White-Gloss-Appliance-Paint-241168/100674043?MERCH=REC-_-rv_homepage_rr-_-NA-_-100674043-_-N) works really well.

Found these in the used section at a cool out-of-the-way gun shop, place run by old-timers with racks out old shottys on the floor. I will be going back, they had all the cool stuff. Anyway, Ruger Security Six and LCR, both in .357 and barely used.

Kid's Christmas present. He'll most likely get it a little early on the 18th, seeing as how we're scheduled to bust clays again that day with the group.

I need to dig up the cardboard boxes in the recycling shed and make some static target stands for him to practice with first.

Hand made boots meant for climbing. They have steel shanks in them and should last a long, long time. I just bought a pair of cheap boots ($160) and they are horrible, once you climb up and get where you will be standing there it's like knives being drove into my feet. Hoping these fix it!

I expect a full report on installation difficulties.

I'm borderline mechanically incompetent and broke a punch trying to remove the right side safety lever before installation (also lever was going into a Centurion FS that I got off gunbroker and was beat to shit and filthy as heck, warranting a full detail strip, in depth cleaning, and spring replacements) but it took me longer to install the sear spring than it did to install the G lever. YMMV

Cool, is it .5 in shorter? G19 size? I was thinking about one once and got distracted. I'm easily distracted but I still like hi powers.

The camo rifle was my first ever build back in 2010. At the time I preferred to have it attached closer to the receiver. I didn't like having the sling where my hand, light, etc are located. I've since changed to preferring it at the end of the hand guard. The IWC QD socket was such a pain to install, and I rarely shoot the rifle so I haven't moved it.

Mossy 590A1 - some random model produced for a year, with 18'' fluted barrel, adjustable trigger
Magpul stock and foreend
Magpul rear sling loop
GGG shell carrier
Hahn Precision sight rail and safety
S+J Mag. Extension, spring, follower and sling loop plate

now also wears an aimpoint micro, vtac sling and lower cheek riser (the height of riser installed at time of photos caused brutal cheek welts with high brass loads).

need to figure out some sort of flashlight and mount solution for it.

I've gotten flooded with PMs wanting more info about the M&P setup I posted above so I thought i'd add a little more info.

It is an exact replica of a setup put together by a unit armorer for use by my close friend/trainer J*** W****** while he was OCONUS.
He is a retired operator from a MIL group I cannot name (those on this board who are in the know will know), and he used this weapons system to provide overwatch for his fireteam while in NPEs, most notably during the ending phases of the battle of Memeadishu.

Why the poverty optic? No RMR06?

according to my friend the operator, they originally ran the adjustable RMRs of the type you mentioned, but during prolonged engagements against unfriendlies the slide and red dot would get hot enough to melt the rubber adjustment buttons and cause the RMR to malfunction. after this occurred they switched to the non-adjustable models.

also for some operators (not myself, i am not that advanced yet) the added drag from the rubberized buttons on the adjustable RMRs can slow down the drawstroke a small amount.

Does that bar help you lift more weight? I can't decide if having your arms like that would help you or not?

More weight? Probably not. It changes the groove a bit. I can back squat without low back issues again. The SSB keeps the weight forward and allows me to be more upright. Works the upper back hard.

I hope you and your friends had a safe and enjoyable time, and the bad guys just the opposite.

How deep do you squat? Parallel? Deeper?

Pyzik, can we have some detail on those IFAK bags?

Thank you!

I think they'd match my M&Ps too.

They are D.A.R.K.s (Direct Action Response Kit) by Dark Angel Medical.

Got one for me and one for the wife.

Definitely wasn't the winner, but it was fun, and better practice than just sitting on the couch.

I like the looks of that bar. Going below parallel changes squats completely for me, I am loving it.

Well, I'm 68 - been lifting forever. I'm currently abstaining from squats ( my favorite exercise) because my left knee is telling me to. I'm planning to get Synvisc injected (works, done it countless times). Had the right knee replaced 7 years ago, along with both shoulders, back surgery, carpals, etc. Good luck - keep your head up.

My shit be potato, but at least all the parts finally arrived. Just finished putting together 2 of the fraternal triplets.

Anderson Manufacturing AR15 Lower Receiver-Closed Trigger Guard

Strike Industries J Comp (Japan Type 89 Style Compensator)

They're fraternals since the MBUS are different colors, and the hand guards are two different kinds, but everything feels the same when you hold it.

Decided to take the .22's out to the range today. Got out there and the berm was covered in clay pigeon fragments so I took a rest at 50 yards and started popping all the orange I could see. The Tech Sights are pretty nice and the Volquartzen hammer kit makes the trigger super light. Fun stuff.

Went on a ski tour with a buddy yesterday and hung out at his home afterward for a few hours. He's a Swiss fellow that I ski and cycle with fairly often.

On my way out, he opened a drawer in his work shop and handed me this stating "Take this with ya and go shoot it some why don't ya" knowing full well that it's a grail-like favorite of mine. I tried to politely decline, especially given his history with it, but he insisted.

Figured I'd share some pics I took coonfingering it when I got it back home...
