Great picture & gun!

This is my 66. Action was done by Fred Sadowski of Denver in the late 70's. It's been places.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b314/Detonics/m66_zpse817566b.jpg

Fred could do some real magic with the Colt Python action, too .... like a reliable DA pull in the 5-6 lb range.

Now if someone would just up some nice pics of an old Swenson gun, an original Dick Heinie piece, a Steve Nastoff .45 or a Pachmayr Gun Works #130 .......

cool vid, thanks for sharing.

I've got an '05 that I'm tinkering with - rear suspension work last winter, gears and differential swap this fall, front suspension and 1-pc driveshaft this winter.

My car is nowhere near the level of yours, but it's still a blast to hit the track!

update:

test and tune at Maryland International Raceway last weekend. My first time down the 1/4 mile (had a few 1/8 mile passes), my car is the right lane:

1710

Not too shabby for 302 rwhp and 3600 pounds. I have to play with launch RPM, tire pressure and strut/shock settings, but I think I can get this down to 12.4 or 12.5 seconds :cool:

I'll share, but only cause I like you guys:

Bolognese Sauce

Ingredients
* 2 tablespoon olive oil
* 8 ounces bacon or pancetta, diced
* 3 cups chopped yellow onions
* 1 1/2 cups diced carrots
* 1 1/2 cups diced celery
* 2 tablespoons minced garlic
* 2 teaspoons salt
* 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 4 bay leaves
* 1 teaspoon dried thyme
* 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
* 2 pounds ground beef or ground veal
* 1 pound pork sausage, removed from the casings, or ground pork
* 4 tablespoons tomato paste
* 2 cups red wine (sangiovese?)
* 2 28 ounce cans crushed tomatoes and their juice
* 1 28 ounce can tomato sauce
* 2 cups beef or chicken stock or broth
* 4 teaspoons sugar
* 1/2 cup heavy cream
* 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
* 6 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
* 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan

Directions

In a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the bacon and cook, stirring, until browned and the fat is rendered, 4 to 5 minutes. Add the onions, carrots and celery and cook, stirring, until soft, 4 to 5 minutes. Add the garlic, salt, pepper, bay leaves, thyme, oregano, cinnamon, and nutmeg and cook, stirring, for 30 seconds. Add the beef and sausages, and cook, stirring, until no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring, for 1 to 2 minutes. Add the wine and cook, stirring, to deglaze the pan and remove any browned bits sticking to the bottom of the pan, and until half of the liquid is evaporated, about 2 minutes.

Add the tomatoes and their juices, the tomato sauce, beef broth, and sugar and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, to keep the sauce from sticking to the bottom of the pan, until the sauce is thickened and flavorful, about 1 1/2 hours. Add the cream, butter, and parsley, stir well, and simmer for 2 minutes. Discard the bay leaves and adjust the seasoning, to taste. Remove from the heat and cover to keep warm until ready to serve.

In all seriousness though, nice watch. I've always liked that style, if only I could find it in a darker format with tritium accents.

Pics of a Flint Michigan PD Sig P229.

Gun was originally DAO and was converted to an SRT discussed in this thread (http://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?9281-Deactivating-a-Magazine-Safety-Legal-Ramifications&p=162622&viewfull=1#post162622) and this thread (http://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?8806-Sig-P229-DAO-to-SRT-conversion).

I replaced all the springs prone to wear, replaced the grips with sticky grips, and did the conversion.

Very happy with how it shoots. Despite the wear on the barrel, it still will tear a single ragged hole at 7 yards. Night sights are a little weak, but I think its got some character to it. :)

Just wanted to share this pic I took of my daughter shooting her first big prone match this weekend. She didn't get to take home anything shiny, but she got tons of experience and had a great time. This was a 3200pt match (320 shots), so lots of shooting for her. She recorded several perfect record bulls throughout the match (her first ones in competition).

This is my favorite pic of her shooting.

Sorry I missed this before now. Yes, it was a set, although the box may have been added to "complete" the watch. I know (thanks to shipping records and serial numbers) when the watch shipped and where it went. The box...not so much.

For what it's worth, I bought it from one of the top guys who buys, sells, and services these old beauties. His name is Larry and he is "da man" on old Hamilton chronometers.

Here's the Model 22 sans box:

We've all seen the "family" photo where people put their pistols down all arranged and neat so they can show them off in a photograph. Here is my take on it:
http://www.teampegleg.com/wp-content/gallery/misc-images/familyphoto.jpg

Sort of an on accident idea for a photo, as I realized that based on how I treat my guns that is close as I will come to that. I was clearing the top shelf of my safe so I can put the racks seen in the picture so I can fit more pistols in my safe. All the guns in the prior picture plus a couple more are in this one:
http://www.teampegleg.com/wp-content/gallery/misc-images/newgunsafepistolrack.jpg

I need to cover that hole somehow to gain that bit of space back.

A black box Colt 3rd Dragoon. Got a decent deal, so brought it home. Would love to shoot a deer and a buffalo with it one day. The Uberti Dragoon I had before this had an interesting deep booming report that echoed off the hills when fired with full charge loads. Hugely fun to shoot. I need to drag this one and out shoot it.

That was the only missing link? A DE?

I'm still missing dozens from just Colt.

When I was in 1911 rehab, I trimmed the herd to five. Then I relapsed, and 6 was in a slot before I knew it. Then the DE bug bit. So I have limited myself to 7 + 1 BHP. At this point, I have room in my safe for exactly 1 pistol to add. "Dozens" is not a feasible option. Let alone from dozens from a single manufacturer.

ETA..... the days of "One man, one plan" have also ended, and I find that all of those long dollars I was making as a single guy going to diapers, baby seats, etc. these days.

That's honestly why I did it. The guy who did it normally does 1911 grips (Stirling Stingray) & I talked him into it. It's got a great texture, without being abrasive. As i said, the stingray it's a bit glossier than I expected, but I'll live.

Had to re-finish the glass, as it had a pretty crappy paint job on it when I received it. Still, excellent price for the actually pretty impressive Bushnell Tactical line scopes. 3.5-21x with the H58 reticle.

Still waiting on an actual CTR stock, (inbound), and have to re-DuraCoat the AimPoint and offset, but pretty much the configuration it will stay in now. I had originally intended it as a battle rifle with exceptional accuracy, but finally opted to get quality long range glass on it, and fill the gap in the precision rifle line up between the 556 PR and the .300 PSR. It has actually been set like this for awhile, but since I finally spent a full Saturday at home for the first time since August, figured I would touch up the paint jobs. At least to the point I could post a pic.

Funny, I had the same problem with mine. It started with an ACOG on it as a "battle rifle." Then, I got curious about its accuracy and shot it with a better scope on it...that sealed the deal for it wearing a little better glass to take advantage of its precision and longer-range capabilites:

Had a surprise day off from work today so I made a trip around to my local gun shops.
First stop was the brand spankin' new Cabelas in Greenville. It was beautiful. Picked up a few 40 round p-mags for $20 each just because I had never come across them before. I coon-fingered (Tam-ism) a used S&W 317 but couldn't bring myself to pay $599 for it. I was on a different mission.
Hit PSA and a few other places looking for a good deal on a Colt AR. Last stop was my local Academy where they had one 6920 for $999.99 (actually mislabeled but they honored the tag). Couldn't be happier. Going to hit the range Friday and get everything zeroed in.

It is a Noveske Recce chrome lined 1:7 twist, light weight barrel. AAC hider for suppressor use if one was so inclined. Which I am. ACOG is the G33 reticle for 556. Dot inside horseshoe 3.5x magnification. Noveske Ambi-charging handle, Gen 3 forged upper/lower. With the addition of this one........# 0, the mock-up/prototype for a special edition run of rifles, it gives everyone in the house a Noveske as a primary 556 rifle. Being a one of a kind, factory built custom prototype of a limited run, limited distro rifle............it will stay as it is in the pic.

Maybe.

Probably won't find out for sometime. With the Noveske VTAC Recce set up/dressed for hard use, and in use..........no real need to send this one through the wringer. And lately, most of my carbine time has been spent on the Noveske .300 BLK SBR. I don't see that changing any time soon either.

Sean - is that a Gen 3 upper & lower? What do you think of them? I haven't yet had a chance to have a Gen3 in hand...

Both are Gen 3. The original spec/build sheet did not specify the Gen 3 upper, but there were some supply issues, so the folks at Noveske provided the Gen 3 uppers for no additional cost. As for what I think of them....they are sexy. If is "better" than a standard AR receiver? I don't know. I am of the opinion and mentality of "Gun work, gun good". I highly doubt I will see any sort of practical "improvement", or increased capability from them. But CDI factor counts towards keeping things focused on the ABC's.

A little revolver family photo. I went a little crazy this weekend and bought a nickel plated 1970-vintage Colt Cobra, and a 3" round butt Model 65-3, both had come from La Uniformada (Puerto Rico Police). Apparently, my dealer got a big shipment of these guns a mix of issue weapons and confiscations. I have no idea whether my guns were issued, but I highly doubt it, no real discernible holster wear on either gun, but some corrosion/rust under the grips. The Cobra is a re-nickel and the price reflected that, but the lock-up was perfect and I have a real weakness for D-Frames.

I have to work on my photography skills, mainly lighting and selecting the right shutter speed to get things crisp. I am doing better in dynamic nature settings but static indoor is really troublesome. I like this background though, back in the day our museum had cultural materials, before they built the big "State of Texas Museum". When that happened our little museum became a natural history focused museum and our cultural materials were stored for a while and recently a bunch were de-accessioned and sold/given away/destroyed. I rescued a stack of these prints that are blow-ups of patent drawings that were on display with antique weapons. The antique weapons, by the way, are on loan to the big museum downtown, not lost/sold/given-away/destroyed.

GT Distributors here in Austin off Brockton Drive. When I was there on Saturday they had three or four 3rd issue Colt Detective Specials in various states of wear, an ugly, but perfect lock-up Colt Agent (3rd issue with the hideous factory parkerizing, like the one in my photo above wearing the fake pearlies), a couple of square butt M36s, and some assorted 4" K-Frames, all in .38/.357 and not one of the guns was over 4 bills. You might give them a ring and see what they have left.

First-ever pistol - still getting the hang of it... The target section is definitely NOT for show-off - it's the reality check. :)

Second pistol coming soon in a larger calibre, but shorter sight radius.

Cool pics. For some reason I spent 18 months without ever once thinking about taking a camera up with me in the EH60. :( The Seoul skyline at sunset could be pretty darned impressive.
(Of course, a lot of the scenery shots would technically have been classified, there's hardly a hilltop that doesn't have an ADA or counter-battery radar site on it...)

so I gotta ask... I've been told it handles like big-arse fighter jet and accelerates like an F-1 car. truth?

It's a big jet, so it isn't going to turn like a fighter. We're limited to 3Gs in wartime with the wings aft. That being said it's still pretty responsive for its size. We can increase speed quickly, especially if we're at a good fighting weight. The jet is mach 1.2 capable. Supersonic shows of force are pretty common. Pilots and WSOs alike can say they've peed standing up going supersonic. There aren't too many other jets that can claim that dubious honor.

I still remember from many years ago (early 80s) traveling to McGuire AFB the day after an air show there (we missed it for some reason.) Dad was driving and were just out from the base when he suddenly pulls over and tells everyone to get out. A B-1B had just taken off from the airfield and was making a lazy left turn overhead, wing spread wide like a massive eagle. As it came through 270 degrees it leveled out, put it's nose skyward, pulled the wings back and just tore away from the field accompanied by the loudest sound I'd ever heard in my life. I was 10 or 11 and was possibly the most beautiful sight I'd seen. They're one of two aircraft I wish I could own, if I had unlimited funds. The other is an F-15E. (Ok, an SR-71 is up there pretty far, but it's 3rd behind the F-15E and B-1B on my fantasy list.) B-1B's are just such a sexy looking aircraft. You're a lucky man to have a gal like that.

My K-frame "Target Masterpiece" trifecta (Top to Bottom: 17-2, 16-2, K38):
http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g405/allencb/trifecta.jpg

The 16-2 now wears the same Ahrends Retro Combat stocks as the other two. I have the original grips for all three, but prefer the Ahrends for shooting. I also have a set of Herrett Revolver Target stocks that came with the K38, but would work on any of the three. They're only good for SA shooting and I shoot almost exclusively DA, so they're stashed away with the K38's box.

The K32 was pure accident. I walked into a shop that seldom had anything of note and happened to notice the 6" k-frame. I assumed it was a later version of my K38 until I noticed the bore was a bit smaller. :D

There is some rash on the cylinder and frame as if someone set it down too hard on concrete, but it is mechanically perfect and the bore is clean and clear. Unfortunately, I haven't shot it much. I always seem to have other guns that need shootin' when it's range time.

I absolutely enjoy shooting .32's. Even though I have a fairly substantial stash of factory ammo I decided reloading and eventually casting was the route to take with mine. Factory ammo is too expensive and too anemic to get the best out of the cartridge in my opinion.

mtnbkr
08-27-2014, 05:57 AM
I reload for the 32S&W (and 32-20), but don't cast for it yet. I'm set up for casting, just not 32cal bullets. I haven't found a suitable mould yet.

I like to keep my 32 loads mild though. I think of it mainly has a slightly more powerful 22. I also have an old 32 hand ejector that I don't want to work too hard.

Chris

Wheeler
08-27-2014, 08:37 AM
That's prudent thinking on the Hand Ejector, especially if it's an I frame. I'm still tinkering with loads, I don't want primer buglers but my J's and K should be able to handle a little more than the SAAMI spec loads designed for the old Iver-Johnson's and H&R's.

For me it is less about being a neat freak, but in being able to find the pistol I want. If I am going to a USPSA match I want to be able to find my pair of action M&Ps. If I am going to practice for Bianchi I want to be able to pull out my pair of Unicorns.

I haven't been to the range in forever - I've been too busy playing with my car! I've spent the past year tinkering and trying to make my setup as efficient as possible at the drag strip; it's amazing how valuable good video can be in helping correct issues:

thanks guys - engine mods are minimal, it's mostly suspension and tires:

- k&n cold air intake, ford racing shorty headers, ford racing GTA mufflers (all installed by the orig owner); steeda underdrive pullies,
- 93 octane tune (put 302hp / 317 tq to the wheels on the dyno)
- 4.10 gears, eaton truetrac differential, lpw differential cover
- ford racing cobra jet drag springs front/rear
- strange single adjustable struts/shocks
- metco upper and lower control arms (rear)
- bmr lower control arm relocation brackets
- removed front swaybar
- removed everything from the trunk (spare tire, shaker 1000 subwoofer and amps)
- 15x4 / 15x8 weld rts wheels
- mickey thompson tires (bias ply front and rear)

otherwise OEM engine (all emissions equipment in place and functional), stock transmission/clutch/shifter, stock 2-pc driveshaft (with two safety loops for racing). With the adjustable struts/shocks it drives like stock when I'm not at the track. My last trip to the track I managed 24.5mpg driving 80+ miles to Maryland International Raceway; I reset the trip computer and got 5.6mpg while racing - lol.

This would be the one pistol that I NEVER sell. 1972 Belgium made BHP. My father in law passed this down to me before passing away (wife thinks it's hers LMAO) and it has a lot of sentimental value to me, and there's a lot of history with this pistol and where it's traveled. One day when I can spare the cash I will be seeing this to the house of T. Yost/J. Burton for a makeover, only guys I can think of to touch this pistol and make it something the old man would love to shoot (and of course me as well). I don't shoot it much to not beat on it more, and frankly because the sights suck and I get really bad hammer bite from it. I've actually picked up a few more Adventure Sworn bushcraft knives since this post. Here's a family photo, after everyone got a chance to help with the wood prep for a backyard story time around the fire.

I recently got in to working with leather for making my own K9 collars and leads due to I wanting a specific setup. I made my first attempt at making a sheath for a friends BK16. It's a fun hobby and I have a lot of respect for people who do this professionally. I so didn't need another hobby but I think I'm hooked.

I was gone for years, working in the middle east and at that point had been gone half her life. I finally decided that being a cool guy gunslinger and big paychecks were not worth it if I had to watch my girl grow up through pictures sent to me.

I took a massive pay cut to be home almost every night and to be an active part of her everyday life. Well worth it, and the wife is much happier too in spite of the being broke all the time.

More details on the wheel gun with a rail!!!!!!???

Timbonez
12-25-2014, 07:07 PM
That's a S&W 325 Thunder Ranch. It's a S&W Performance Center gun made in collaboration with Clint Smith. The rail is removeable too. I have one and enjoy it very much. Unfortunately my wife shoots it better than me.

That surefire looks like it fits the rail better than my TLR-1s. If I put it on the rear most rail the rocker switch blocks the yoke from opening. If I set it forward on the middle or forward most rail it's too far to reach. I may have to invest in a Surefire as I use my 325 TR as a bedside gun.

Here's the crazy part, it's a Mercury Milan Premium. Lol.

I bought it used but saved about $1500 because it was manual. Salesman said they had a hard time selling it.

I prefer a manual too except in bad traffic, blah. Stop and go, stop and go gets old.

Picked up this young buck yesterday.

It's a Hi Power compact clone called the M95 Detective built by Fabricaciones Militares Industria de Argentina, the state run small arms manufacturing arm of the Argentinean Ministry of Science, Technology and Defence Production in the field of MINDEF. They even make a model with the SFS system built in like the Lionheart pistols have. Shame they don't make or import them anymore. Can't wait to do some work on it, get a holster and shoot CCP with it.

Didn't even know what was coming in the mail and was flabbergasted to see an entire upper when I opened the box.

16" midlength, 13" Alpha rail. I am really liking the way the rail feels. The machining makes it quite "grippy".

Finally got them in (after Lipsey's lost, then sent my golden boy's to the wrong dealer! who then put them out on display!!!)

Left -> right:
Youth .22
Golden Boy .22 (mine) custom serial #
Golden Boy .22 (son's) custom serial #
AR-7

Glad I decided to get the AR-7, as the Youth .22 is pretty darn heavy! The kid is 7, hence why I got the Youth as well. Hope he takes to it, as the little bastard has already claimed my Ruger SR22 as his own. :D
