I have an 11 oz 342PD. I recently put a Taurus 850 grip on the gun. Here's an example of what it looks like on a Taurus revolver:

This grip is the best combination of backstrap padding & concealability I have found. It's no longer than the boot grips that came on the gun, but it fills the hand much better. It only costs $10 + shipping from Taurus.

Note: you either have to take out the pin at the bottom of the J-Frame, or create a hole in the Taurus grip to fit the pin.

Here are some pics of the Taurus grip vs the LG-305 Crimson Trace and S&W Full Size J Frame grip. The Taurus has the most backstrap padding of any of them. I shot some 135+p gold dots the other day, and was pleasantly surprised by the performance of the grip. In addition to the padding, it seems to encourage a nice high grip in my hand which also helps recoil control.

Thanks, I think I'll try that. The backstrap of my CT405 came apart and I'm looking for something else.

I get the idea and the function improvements, but there's something about putting a Taurus grip on a S&W that just seems wrong. Like, mad scientist making horrid hybrid animal species wrong.

Yeah, but as the old saying goes, "if it's stupid but it works, it's not stupid"

I'm going to have to try that, I also have a set of 405s that are falling apart.

Looks like the Taurus medallion can be poked out. That's a plus. :)

Just proof that different folks like different things. I think it should be a felony to put a stock on a revolver that covers the backstrap. It's right there along with defiling somebody's plate with a pickle when they didn't ask for it.

Looking at that, I can't help but think you owe someone or something an apology.

TPD said it though... If it works, it's not so stupid.

Did you have to call Taurus to order those grips? I don't find a link to order parts on their site.

They won't take a phone order for parts without a serial number. So you have to mail in this form (http://www.taurususa.com/pdf/accessories-order-form.pdf). The small rubber boot grip is part number 5-20880 (http://www.taurususa.com/accessories-rgrips.cfm) with a cost of $9.

They charge $8.75 shipping/handling, so it's $17.75 total.

I carry a BUG / S&W 642 in my left front pocket.

The boot grip that comes with the Jframe sucks for good control !

But on the other hand the 2 finger grip works great for front pocket carry.

I'm on the lookout for a 3 finger rubber grip that works well or draws well when carried in front pocket

EDIT / BTW

Also since I grip my Jframes real high up , to the max . I would prefer the back strap to remain bare.

Hogue now offers the grip they make for the Ruger LCR for S&W j-frames as well.
