The Silent Thunder holster is a minimalist, cant-adjustable (and tuckable?) Kydex holster lined with high-quality leather. What little I've been able to find online about it suggests that it's a very well-made, innovative design, combining the durability and strength that Kydex affords with the smooth, silent draw that higher-quality leather provides.

Is anyone on here running one of these? If so, please lend your first-hand commentary.

I've been thinking about getting one of auto hood versions to use for a revolver duty holster.

I have been using something similar from the same maker: their American Statesman holster. I am not usually a big fan of clip-on and one point holsters, but this is certainly the best of those I have seen and I have enjoyed using it.

It certainly does display a higher degree of quality than many holsters I have seen, and even with the one point of attachment is secure and comfortable.

Judging by this product, I would imagine the Silent Thunder would be good gear.

I had one of his earlier models that was IWB with a single point attachment clip on the belt and a single point attachment on the holster to clip. I didn't like that because the gun would move around some/ changing cant. The new style attachment seems to be a fix of that problem, so it should be good to go. I think carry height could be adjusted as well.

The holster was great and held my 1911s very well. I had a Commander size holster, but could also carry the Governments in it too, because the bottom was open. The draw was silent and silky smooth. The reholster was smooth and tight. It had several tension adjustment screws for however you liked it. I would like to have one of the new models now.

So far, sounds great. Thanks for this feedback.
I've been carrying a HK P2000sk at 4 o'clock in a Crossbreed Supertuck---it's comfortable and secure, but I have just noticed that the lower portions of the leather backing print through the pants noticeably. So I'm after a more compact design that is quick on & off, secure, won't permit rotation around the belt-mount, and can be used for carry anywhere from 12:30 to 4:30. I especially like the fact that Silent Thunder appears to have a useful but well-designed shirt/sweat guard that won't obstruct a good grip & draw.

(tmoore912, you've got a lot of good gear. I read about your liking Dale Fricke's HORIZONTAL mag pouch and bought one. I'm rather short-waisted and so the conventional vertical mount is less appealing to me, even though the P2000sk mags are pretty darn short. Accessing and pulling the mag in the horizontal orientation, rather than vertical, seems far more natural, requiring much less contortion. It's great. Thanks for the heads-up.)

Thanks for the thorough review. I'm a bit confused. Is your review for a Garrett industries holster or a Tucker gunleather holster? The pic has a Tucker gunleather card, but I can't find that holster on the Tucker gunleather site. Both holster makers have "silent" holsters so I'm trying to clarify.

All the best

J

Tucker sells the Silent Thunder holster and it is made by Garrett. You can find them on either website and you can order through either website. IIRC, on Tucker's site you navigate there through the IWB link and click on the appropriate picture.

Erik is right, but right now I can't find it on Tucker's website either. Bear in mind, I bought mine from Tucker some 3 years ago.

Went ahead and bought one. Very well-made. Lots to like: minimal design with adjustable retention, adjustable cant, tuckable clip, high-quality hardware......great design.

It's got 90% of the stability & comfort of the Crossbreed Supertuck while offering a far simpler/easier on-&-off design with its simple, single belt clip. (I pretty much had to loosen my belt and unbutton my pants to don the ol' Supertuck.)

Drawing and re-holstering is smooth, slick and virtually silent. The only noise I can sense is the tell-tale click of my P2000sk's right-side slide release lever as it settles during reholstering. (Anyone know how to kill its movement/rattle??)

This holster won't work for me AIWB---mainly because I'm too portly in the midsection---but it fits and feels great at 4 o'clock, and access is quick & easy. Nicely designed sweat guard covers the slide well and aids reholstering yet is small enough that it doesn't impede on carrying comfort or draw grip/speed at all.

Only things I might add is a wider/flatter belt clip (maybe metal spring clip) to maximize the on-belt stability and to reduce any rotation to cant.

Again, great design and very well-made.

Am considering the Silent Thunder Slim for S&W M&P 9mm full size. The Slim has the clip off-set to the rear, so it's not sitting right on the side. That makes it slimmer. My reasoning is that if it's less obtrusive and easier to put on the belt and remove from the belt, it will make life a lot easier. Right now, I'm just carrying in my pants pocket - not such a comfortable or useful way to carry a full size M&P! Compared to that, almost anything will be an improvement. But my concern is - just how easy/difficult is it to put that holster with gun onto the belt, and how easy is it to remove it? I can tolerate some deviation from perfect stability, but only if it means easier mounting and removing from the belt.

Any thoughts on/ experience with this?

It's fast & easy to put on and take off with my subcompact and the standard clip. I thought about the slim-clip but couldn't believe that the clip location/shape alone would make a big difference---I figured that the grip would print far more than a little clip.

Loosen the belt, grip your belt & waistband at the wear point with my strong hand, slip the holstered gun inside the waistband, hook the belt clip on the belt, re-tighten your belt, and I'm GTG. Whole process took me maybe 25 seconds on the very first try, but only about 10 seconds thereafter. Removing the rig takes literally about 4 seconds.

It might take a little longer with a full size pistol (?), but I doubt that it would be more than a 10% difference at most.

Which clip are you going to get? The standard or slim?

I'll be getting the standard, because in answer to my inquiry, the company said that one is the easiest to out on and take off. The question now is the color.

. . . but I'm still interested in hearing from anyone using the "Slim" with the standard clip. Because it's off-set to the rear [thus making it more slim], it's point of balance must be different. Any experiences or thoughts on that?
