My wife has a need for a G27, around town here in Alaska, to be carried IWB in the same Sparks holster she runs a G26 in, down in the lower 48. I know, .40 isn't the ideal cartridge for four legged critters, but she has already has and carries the G29/20 and Smith 329 depending upon conditions, but wants something smaller for IWB.

My question is for a G27 purchase now, Gen 3 or 4?

Well for the G27 I'd have to say Gen 4, it will have a smaller grip and better texturing.

I do think that a Gen 4 G23 might be a better option though, if she's wearing it IWB with the right holster a G23 might be more comfortable due to a bit larger surface area.
At least that is the way it worked for me.

Let me though this out there, with good ammo ( Win Ragner T 127+P+) or the corbon DPX. the 9mm will do just about any thing the .40 will.

Sorry, to clarify, my question is whether the Gen 4 27's are exhibiting the same reliability issues we have been discussing with the Gen 4 17, 19 and 23 Glocks?

Small dimensioned girl, and the 26/27 is the size limit that works for her IWB. This isn't primarily a moose/bear gun, but it could be in an emergency. Since she shoots the G29 and Smith 329 recoil isn't an issue for her, as she will verify reliability and then shoot it much less than her 26/19/17.

Over at GT I've only seen happy talk from new owners of Gen 4 subcompacts but the G26 reports seem to outnumber the G27 reports by quite a margin. Not a lot to go on in either case however. Not a lot of guns and not very high round counts.

Not a lot of guns and not very high round counts.Exactly. I ignore the posts that read like this: "It ran great, I put 100 rounds through it".

I haven't really paid much attention to Glock 40's, but have the Gen 3 27's and 23's run, leaving aside the weapon light issue?

My gut is that for a purchase now, assuming the Gen 3 27's have run well, that would be the safer bet.

One thing to think about on the 4th gen 26-27, the recoil spring is the same as the gen 3's. And the Gen 4 40.s have been running much better than the gen 4 9's.

I've not bought a Gen 4. 27 but its on the list.

I have a Gen 3 Glock 27 that has worked out quite well for carry and some BUG work when the J-Frame was not in use. I recently compared the Gen3 to a coworkers Gen4. Pretty much the same, recoil springs and internals. The main exception is the grip with the new Gen4 grip and the mag release. My coworkers opinion was to go for a Gen3 because he said that the Gen4 grip texture rubbed him hard in a few places due to the more aggressive grip texture. His is carried as an ankle gun during the work week and then IWB off duty. I suggested a better holster and taller socks, but he still says the grip is not too comfortable with the new texture. He also stated that the larger mag release was nice for the extra area to hit it with the thumb, but could not find a decent slip on rubber grip to accommodate the grip. Just a few thoughts, let us know what you settle on. If you go with the Gen4, give us some feed back.
