View Full Version : Hornady Steel Match for Self Defense?

It's hard to find any 9mm around here so I've been buying whatever I've come across. Today I burned 100 rounds of Hornady Steel Match in two G19's; a seven year old Gen 3 and a Gen 4 that came off production earlier this year. Both were completely reliable and accurate. What really caught my attention was the lack of recoil in both guns. I literally paused after the first few rounds I put thru the Gen 3. It reminded me of weak white box Winchester from Wally World or Federal's cheap stuff.

With the ammo shortage being what it is, I can't help but wonder would this round be a decent self defense round? Anyone have any experience with it or know of links to test results?

I responded before I understood the details of the question. Mea culpa.

Steel Match uses the HAP (Hornady Action Pistol) bullet instead of a bonded hollow point designed for self defense. It's exceptionally accurate, but it's also not intended for defensive use.
