Week 67: 26662
results may be posted until 11:59pm EST on Friday 17-May-2013.

designed by Todd Louis Green
Range: 3 - 7yd
Target: one 6" circle and two 2" circles (download a pdf version of the target (http://pistol-training.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/2-two-inch-and-1-six-inch-circles.pdf))
Start position: from concealment or a duty/retention holster
Rounds fired: 25

I can't believe we've never done this as a DotW before...

The 26662 drill is a changing gears drill that challenges you to switch between low% and high% targets at speed. Choose a distance of 3, 5, or 7 yards depending on your skill level.

You will shoot this drill five times. Using a shot timer, record your time for each run.

The drill is shot as follows:
Draw and fire one shot to one of the 2" dots.
Transition to the 6" dot and fire three rounds at it.
Transition to the second 2" dot and fire one round at it.

So you fire 2", 6" 6" 6", 2" (thus the name of the drill... duh). Do not take extra makeup shots. Be sure you have at least five rounds loaded in your pistol before drawing each time; if you mismanage your ammunition and need to reload in the middle of the drill it still counts.

At the end of five runs you should have five hits in each of the two 2" dots and fifteen hits in the 6" dot.

If your range does not allow you to draw from a holster, begin the drill from your preferred ready position.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

Start position (concealed, duty, or ready).
Distance.
Total time for all five runs.
Total number of hits on each of the 2" dots (maximum 5 each).
Total number of hits on the 6" dot (15 maximum).
Make & model of gun and holster.

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

M&P 45 "Minor"

7 Yards

6.13 Clean
4.66 -1 big circle
4.80 -1 big circle
3.94 Clean (2.25 first shot)
3.58 -1 big circle (1.99 first shot)

My time on my first shot was forever...so I really had to concentrate on "pressing" out early, which is something I don't always do..but this was a good reminder on tight shots it helps.

RTF2 G19 from a JM Custom AIWB from under a T shirt
5 yards

4.32 - 1 miss on a small circle
3.81 - 0 misses
5.40 - 1 miss on big circle - had a FTE, cleared it and finished the run. I was happy about that considering.
3.84 - 1 miss on big circle
3.76 - 0 misses
TOTAL TIME: 21.13 with 3 misses (1 on the upper right small circle, last shot of string; and 2 misses on the big circle at 12:00 1/4" outside the ring - an "anatomically good miss" ;) )

Fun drill. This FTE was the first malf in this gun as it passed the 2K mark. A couple hundred rounds ago for grins I put a Apex extractor in it to see what difference they made and I was like WOW, I'd never seen a Glock kick out brass like that. Strong and ridiculously tuned 1911 like. Go figure. Ammo was Geco 115 gr fmj.

4.56 - 1 @ 2" #2
4.16 - Clean
Total time 25.01 with 5 misses, slow /and/ sloppy. Great drill; I will try it from 7 in the next session and see if I can keep from watching my hits.

Once again I made it to the range twice to try this drill. Used my usual IDPA equipment (Blade-Tech owb holster) and open front concealment with an M&P9 at 5 yards.

Run 1: 5.25 clean
Run 2: 4.72 clean
Run 3: 6.10 clean
Run 4: 4.88 clean
Run 5: 4.72, -1 (tried pushing my speed and missed the last shot of the run)
Total time: 25.67, only miss was on the second 2” circle.

On 5/13
Run 1: 5.14 clean
Run 2: 5.91, -1 (missed the first shot)
Run 3: 5.22 clean
Run 4: 5.00 clean

7yds
Run 1: 7.84, miss first shot
Run 2: 7.92, miss first shot, miss 1-6"
Run 3: 8.22, clean
Run 4: 7.68, miss both 2", miss 1-6"
Run 5: 7.38, miss first shot
Total: 39.04

Figuring I bit off too much at the 7, I went to the 5 but it didn't improve much.

5yds
Run 1: 6.63, clean
Run 2: 6.01, miss both 2"
Run 3: 6.41, clean
Run 4: 7.46, miss both 2", miss 1-6"
Run 5: 7.10, clean
Total: 33.61

All misses were close, and a little low. This was consistent with other exercises tonight due to some anticipation. Doubtful that it has much effect but noted, this is also the first night back on this gen2 G19 in quite some time, and the first night with it with these sights.

Tomorrow night, dot torture and ball-dummy.

Tried it twice.

First run was doing my normal J-draw/hybrid/micro-pressout, whatever it is.

Start position: concealed
Distance: 7 yards
Total time for all five runs: 17.41
Total number of hits on each of the 2" dots (maximum 5 each): 8/10 - one miss on the first 2" circle and one on the last 2" circle.
Total number of hits on the 6" dot (15 maximum): 14/15
Make & model of gun and holster: Gen3 G34, Ameriglo Defoor sights, Keeper holster

Second run I did basically my old 4-count draw - not the straight line holster to final position draw - but just trying to get the gun to its final position as quickly as possible (never mind the eye target line), and refining sights and trigger from there.

Start position: concealed
Distance: 7 yards
Total time for all five runs: 16.43
Total number of hits on each of the 2" dots (maximum 5 each): 7/10 - one miss on the first 2" circle, and two on the last 2" circle.
Total number of hits on the 6" dot (15 maximum): 15/15
Make & model of gun and holster: Gen3 G34, Ameriglo Defoor sights, Keeper holster
