Week 66: Cold AMRAP
results may be posted until 11:59pm EST on Friday 10-May-2013.

Range: 7yd
Target: 8" circle, IPSC A-zone, or 8.5x11 sheet of paper
Start position: from concealment or a duty/retention holster
Rounds fired: varies

Another low round count drill for those struggling to keep their ammo supplies intact.

Set up your target at seven yards. You will draw from either concealment or a duty/retention holster. If your range does not allow you to draw from a holster, begin from the ready position (gun in whatever condition you normally carry it).

As with last week this drill must be performed before any other shooting that day. These must literally be the very first rounds you fire.

The drill will involve setting a PAR time based on your normal skill level drawing to the same target at 7yd:

If your 1-shot draw time is usually 1.5s or less, set a PAR of two seconds.
If your 1-shot draw time is usually > 1.5s and < 2.5s, set a PAR of three seconds.
If your 1-shot draw time is usually more than 2.5s or you do not know what your draw time usually is, set a PAR of four seconds.

Set up the target, set your PAR, and on the beep you will draw and get as many hits as possible within the PAR time. Any shots fired after the PAR runs out will not count whether they were hits or misses. Record both the total number of rounds you fired and the number of hits you scored within the PAR time.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

Start position (concealed, duty, or ready).
PAR time selected.
Number of shots fired.
Number of hits scored.
Make & model of gun and holster.

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

gen4 Glock 19 9mm
Full duty gear, Safariland 6390 w/ ALS guard
Federal AE 124 FMJ (AE9AP)
3 seconds par
IPSC A-zone (printed from PF)
5 fired, 5 hits

All five were in a baseball sized group right around the 1" square. I could have likely sped up a bit and still been within the scoring area.

Number of shots fired: 4
Number of hits scored: 4 (8" circle of Q-PT v2)
Make & model of gun and holster: SACS 9mm 1911 w/124+p HST, 5 Shot SME

Shot this genuinely cold. I didn't touch the gun, holster, or cover garment after getting out of the car. There was no dry draw to swap ammo, no repositioning of the holster, etc.

Starting position: Concealed Desantis IWB under t-shirt.
Target: 8'' plate.
Par: 3 sec.
Shots fired: 5
Hits: 4

I had all 5 in the plate but my last one went over my par time. My over all "COLD" performance was just horrible:(

I ran this drill on two separate days. Both times did 8” circle and 3 sec PAR. Pistol was M&P9, Blade Tech holster and open front concealment.
May 4 run: 5 shots, 4 hits
May 6 run: 5 shots, 3 hits.
All shots were within PAR, target was an 8” circle printed on 8.5x11 paper. All shots were on the paper, misses were just outside the circle.

Yesterday, I did this drill as cold as possible (well almost) in that it was in the 40's, and I did it with a pistol I had never shot before.

Glock 22, Fricke Gideon, Otte soft shell
1.43, .31, .23, .23, .23, all hits. Since I was using a 2 second par, that makes 3 hits.

Today, Glock 17, Fricke Gideon, Otte soft shell
1.22, .32, .22, .24, .25. Since I was using a 2 second par, this makes 4 hits in time.

So much for the "big" difference is follow-up shot splits with the .40 compared to the 9.

Gosh, I hate following OrigamiAK on these drills.

You always shame me on the super accuracy drills though. :)
