So good it deserves it's own thread.
750ml, 10% ABV = epic internet trolling in about an hour

Rogue Double Chocolate stout is good, but allow me to recommend this (http://lefthandhorror.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/chok.gif) to your attention.

My Tuesday evening treat was to visit my local drinker and order two scoops of homemade vanilla ice cream in a pint glass, and a bottle of Choklat. Heaven.

Any Rogue Beer is excellent in my book! Their Hazelnut Brown Nectar is another tasty brew that is right up there with the Chocolate Stout. When I was at the beer distributor last week I noticed a case of that delicious Double Chocolate Stout and then I noticed the price; $80 for a case! (Ball park figure)

I am still searching around for the individual bottles so I do not buy a whole case. With ammo prices and availability in their current state, I may just buy a case of this stuff instead!:D Chocolate Stouts go with anything, especially ice cream!

Speaking of local brews...these guys recently purchased an old cotton mill here in town and have made it into their own brewing company (http://deepriverbrewing.com/beer-lineup). I'm not much of a beer connoisseur but everyone speaks highly of their brew.

Here's a shot of part of my current beer selection.
There's a few more options scattered around the back rows.
I like variety and trying new stuff.
At most I have one or two beers with dinner, so I like to make it an adventure.
I'm a real fan of Italian and South American beers, they have a distinctive flavor that goes well with the warm days we're starting to have.
I save the Porter, Stout and IPA's for cooler evenings or to match up with a steak.

Currently my stash is a little low, but has inside: Anchor Steam, Stiegl Austrian lager, Shiner Bock, Aviator Hog Wild, Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, Sam Adams Alpine Seasonal, Flying Dog Centennial Imperial Single Hop IPA, Nomad Pils, Lagunitas Sucks, and miscellany Michelob Ultra and so forth-- and Coronas for my bro in law, as well as a few others on another shelf. :-)

Didn't realize you couldn't edit posts indefinitely.

This was THE most over-the-top-flavorful beer I've ever had.
I'm not shy about too much malt or too much body. But... wow.
As a casual drink, it fails miserably. It's just too ..... much.
As a dessert (not WITH dessert, AS a dessert), maybe with a cigar... really nice.

Thanks for the recommendation...

Scale is right next to the toilet... for scientific purposes only of course.

Update:
Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout.
Amazing cocoa flavor, not quite as heavy as the Rogue.
Only 5% ABV and comes in a 550ml bottle so it's not quite as frisky as the Rogue.
Of the two I'm going to have to give the nod to the Samuel Smith's for overall flavor and drinkability.
If it was a cold winter evening and I was trying to grow a epic Viking beard then i'd go Rogue.
But since this is dessert after a nice rack of mesquite grilled babyback ribs, the Smith's is perfect.

http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2013/05/16/brewpub-honor-slain-mit-officer-with-collier-stout/sx5bb82Q8wIozEfjBLRo1O/story.html

New ‘Collier Stout’ beer to honor MIT officer

Sean Collier had many loves in life, from hiking to police work, the Patriots to country music. And, as friends attest, he was fond of a good beer.

That is why, nearly a month after the MIT police officer’s tragic death, allegedly at the hands of the Boston Marathon bombers, news that Cambridge Brewing Company in Kendall Square is creating a beer in Collier’s honor — “Collier Stout” — is giving those who loved him reason to smile.

“I think Sean would be beside himself if he knew a beer was being named after him,” said Travis Dixon, who graduated with Collier from the police academy and roomed with him for the past three years.

Phil Bannatyne, Cambridge Brewing Company’s longtime owner, said he expects the first batch of Collier Stout, which will be a dry Irish stout, to be brewed by the end of May. After a quick fermentation, the first pints should be ready for drinking around mid-June.

The beer will cost $5.50, with Cambridge Brewing Company donating $1 from each sale to the Jimmy Fund, which has established a memorial fund in Collier’s honor.

Chris Vossmer, an Arlington native now living in Colorado Springs, was the first to suggest the idea. Sitting in the tasting room of his favorite microbrewery, Rocky Mountain Brewery, he and his friends were discussing April’s tragic events when a rich, dark beer was put in his hands.

“I had spent 24 years of my life dedicated to military service and protecting our rights and freedoms, and to have terrorists hit my hometown, it still bothers me,” said Vossmer, a retired Air Force first sergeant. “I took a drink, and said this would be something that would be fitting [as a remembrance].

“My friends at the bar said, ‘Why don’t we brew one?’ Within a couple of minutes we were able to come up with the name. Sean was a big, strong, stout kid.”

That stout also means “brave” makes the name resonate that much more, he said.

Vossmer’s sister, Cheryl, a sergeant in MIT’s Police Department who knew Collier well, quickly embraced the idea. While she approached Cambridge Brewing Company, another MIT police sergeant, Richard Sullivan, said he received the endorsement of Collier’s family.

Rocky Mountain Brewery and Cambridge Brewing Company will each put out a version of Collier Stout sometime in June, with each brewer using a past recipe for expediency. The MIT Hobby Shop will be providing wooden “Collier Stout” beer taps, featuring a night watchman’s stick and a police badge.

Plans call for each brewer to produce a limited run, which in Cambridge’s case means about 2,000 pints, Bannatyne said.

Tim Croke, Collier’s other roommate and a fellow law enforcement officer, promised to be first in the line.

“The memorial service at MIT was the dream send-off that he would have wanted. Now having a beer named after him — it’s so fitting,” Croke said. “I can’t wait for this to come out so Travis and I can raise a toast to him — one last cheer.”

Living on the West Coast as I am wont...I often make runs up and down the wet edge of BC, Washington and Oregon and even sometimes California, sampling local beers as I go.

I made friends with a chef at Rogue Brewery one time after he made me an amazing burger with blue cheese. I have had a zillion burgers and this was one of the best and I went to the kitchen to tell him so...turns out he was having a really lousy day and that made an impression. Anyway...he now runs a kitchen in Seaside. So if you're out that way go check out their big brew pub. I predict excellent burgers.

This is his place:

For a super light summer pilsener I really like this Turkish beer called Efes. I believe it contains a significant amount of rice rather than wheat (so if you have some kind of gluten issue, like for instance you live in Seattle or Vancouver, this is potentially better? I have no idea).

Anyway what struck me about the Efes I had was that it seemed less carbonated than a lot of beers. It was a very clean mouthfeel as a result, or that's what I thought, anyway. Perfect poolside beer.
