I just scored one of these today. Basically, a custom shop Rail Gun w/a desert cerakote finish. I guess they're kinda hard to get right now, cause people are paying 3x retail to get them on GB. I payed less than MSRP for mine. I pick it up this afternoon. I'll post lots of pics if anyone is interested.

Damn, I want one for some completely irrational reason.

I was just browsing Bud's & it popped up in the Colt section for $1,906.00

Have you seen the spring assembly? I looked for pics on zee Google but found nothing. Curious how it's set up.

They have a post about it on modern service weapons from about three or four weeks ago. It shows a picture of the dual recoil spring setup.

Just put 50 rds 230 gr fmj through. Super soft shooting gun. That dual spring works. The slide feels like it's on ball bearings, super slick. Pretty impressed. The roll marks are pretty sick too.

This was from Brent, who runs the Colt Custom Shop, over on 1911forum about the gun...

The commercial gun is exactly the same in all specs as the gun that the Marines get other than we fit a custom shop barrel.

what is the benefit of the dual springs?how come its not used anywhere else?

It reduces stress on the frame during extended firing & increases recoil spring life. I personally have never seen this set up before, but then again, you could take what I know about 1911's & fill a thimble. I'm not sure if its something Colt developed in conjunction w/MARSOC or what. I do know however that it works, never shot a softer shooting 1911.

I would like to get a better look at it.Is it a GI style guide rod, spring plug set up?I wonder what the individual spring weights are?where do you get replacement springs from?

The Marine Corps thinks it makes the gun work better. The actual improvement over a stock spring set up is debatable.

It's a skinnier, solid GI style rod w/a normal looking outer spring & skinnier inner spring that just slides in. I'll take pics later. Looks like it would be no issue to just use a standard spring though

There are dual springs on the G26, Gen 4 Glocks, and lots of other pistols. Just not seen on 1911s. Probably the same concept as the Gen 3 to Gen 4 changes with Glock...... reduces recoil impulse.

Did the 10mm Delta Elite's come with dual springs?

Did the 10mm Delta Elite's come with dual springs?

They used to. Dunno about the reintroduction. I just did like most Delta Elitists and tossed the dual factory springs and the ****y plastic factory guide rod and replaced them with a proper metal GI guide rod and a single Wolff spring.

Me? It looks like an interesting gun, and I suspect that the mods made as a result of the pre-contract testing protocol will make it one of the more durable/reliable 1911s, but I'm still amazed that ANY military organization-especially one with a strong liklihood of using the gun, and heavily at that-would gravitate to a 1911 pattern pistol. Especially with such excellent choices in polymer-framed alternatives; the Gen4 Glock G21, HK 45/45C, M&P 45 all come to mind.

Best, Jon

Then you're not conversant with internal politics of the USMC and the desire on the part of a very few to have a MARSOC 1911, whether needed, desirable or not.

And Jon,

What is really telling it that MARSOC has been using a polymer pistol for a while now with excellent results. It's just apparently not Marine "cool" enough. The gun they've been using? A Glock 19...

Maybe if Glock provided in in a MARPAT frame?

Not senior Marine officer/SNCO nor retired Marine now civilian procurement cool.
