View Full Version : Odd Zeroing Issue with Gen4 Glock 34...

At 25 yards, I found that my Glock 34 was printing about 4" right, with a great deal of vertical stringing (groups were around 2" wide and 6" high.) It feels like the gun might not be locking up consistently from shot to shot. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Anything I should look at?

Chris, I have two Gen 4 34's, and like my Gen 4 17 and 19's, they require a .235 front to match my Warren rear, but shoot 2-3 inch groups at 25, with the rear sight in the same position as the 17/19's.

JV also has 1 or 2 Gen 4 34's and may be able to comment, although as I recall, his 34's are like mine.

Two Gen 4 G17's are more accurate than my 3's.

Same, my gen 4 definitely displays a slight edge in terms of accuracy over my gen 3's.

Same across our Gen 3 vs Gen 4 battery.

But the OPs issue sounds pretty strange. If one can elimate really bad ammo as a variable, something sounds amiss. But I don't know how one can easily observe a lock up problem; it all happening so fast and all the explosion noise and such.

One thing I find odd about my new Gen 4 G34 (1200 rds thus far of accurate reliability) is it seems very lightly sprung and the slide will move out of battery with very little pressure. Very different from our earlier Gen 4 17s and 19s.

Just for grins, can you (Chris) get some replacement RSA's and try them out? Personally I thought the best flat handling of all of our Gen 4's was my first Gen 4 G17 bought in March 2010 with the original unmarked RSA that was the same as for the G22. I sold it to my elder son and it's got 10-11K rds of success with that RSA. It's a training pistol and we're curious how long that heavy spring will go. At 10K I can't tell any difference retracting the slide as when it was new. It's heavy.

I just set one up with a bar sto match barrel and have been incredibly happy. Take a look at your locking block and FCG. Mine was all sorts of machined poorly.

NEAT! Have you benched it at 25 yds and seen anything SICK from it? :D

And btw - what does FCG stand for?

I now have (2) 34s and (1) 17, all 3 needed taller front sights. All of my Gen4 guns, including my 3 prior Gen4 19s, shot 3 or 4" LEFT @ 25Y. My 2011 Gen3 gun has the same issue, none of my other Gen 3s do.

I'm not a bench shooter, and I hate glock triggers. That having been said I went from 11/18 on the head portion of a reduced size steel idpa silhouette to 18/18 at 35 yards. Only difference being the barrel, which before I fit it was literally too tight to go into the gun. The bonus for me is I only paid 70 bucks for it from a guy who didn't realize that match fit = gunsmith when he bought it.

I should mention that both of my Glock 34s have 0.235" front sights.

I have two replacement 0-2-4 RSAs inbound, along with one non-captive aftermarket single-spring assembly.

The Bar-Sto barrel might make for an interesting experiment. I'd like to have one fitted, but I've been balking at the price...

Chris, a few thoughts. If you have a Gen 4 17, it would be interesting to drop your 34 onto the 17 lower, and the 17 upper on your 34 lower, to see if that helps isolate the problem. Depending upon what you learn, I could loan you one of my G4 34 barrels to test fire with you upper.

Check for a crack in the slide at the ejection port.
Look very carefully because the ones i've seen are hairline cracks and they cause the exact accuracy problems you're having.

This has happened to 2 of our G-17's. Both times Glock made it right. :) Both of them were high round count guns.

Field strip the gun and flex the slide to see the crack down through the ejection port.
