I have one Sig P228 and I have three P30 9mm's. I am thinking of trading the P228 that is real nice for a P30 in 40 so I have the same platform in 9mm and 40sw. My better half carries a Glock 23 everyday of the week and I am carrying a P2000 in 40 but I train with my P30s because I really enjoy them. She is also the reason why I do not have 4 P30s because she wants to carry a 45acp when she goes back to work. Other than being upped by a woman I like the 40 and I do carry a P2000 or USPc depending on what I grab from the safe and how I feel.

I know ask and ask but I am getting use to one platform and really enjoy the HK system but have used the Sig M11 in Hostile places around the world but that does not mean I need to have a P228 I have a p229 SAS gen2 that was my gun that I practiced with when I was going to be issued a M11.

I know the panic is making people really touch about ammo, but think for a second - which is a better investment: The same pistol in another caliber you don't stock currently, or 3-4 more cases of 9mm?

If you were going to move on to another caliber I would at least do so for a better reason than "being upped by a woman."

edit: I missed that you already own .40s. If you think you might benefit, then go for it. Hard for me to judge as personally I would consider what you have invested in which platforms/calibers and to consolidate towards those that give you the most net benefit, however you are calculating that. I am personally happy limiting myself to 9mm in a single platform while tentatively moving to revolvers over time to scratch my "hobbyist" itch.

After 3,200 rounds thru my TDA P226, I shoot it better than a P30 after near 100,000 LEM rounds..

Which version of the P-30? I have the V3 [DA/SA decock only]. I shoot the M9 better. I wonder if things might be different if it was LEM?

Oops, I see yours is an LEM.

FWIW, my experience was exactly the opposite. After years and close to 200,000 rounds through SIGs, it took me just a few weeks and a few thousand rounds to fall in love with the LEM. Different strokes, literally, for different folks.

I am just going to keep my Sig P228. Other than actually having used and carried it a lot in the form of the M11 it would not be easily replaced if I wanted another.

I have other 40sw guns that i can use if I cannot find 9mm. I have just been thinking a lot lately on what I have other guns other than P30's and Glock 19/23.

If it is a true P228 (as in W. German or German manufactured) then I would keep it, because it cannot be easily replaced. The shit coming out of Exeter is not comparable to a pre 2005 (Cohen) Sig. P30's are a dime a dozen.

I sure hear this, or a variation on this, whenever "Sig" is mentioned.

That said, my 2012 226R is just past 3,200 rounds since new without a stoppage. Had a conversation with BOM, and as I recall, his late model 226 is past 5,000 rounds without a stoppage, despite hardly being cleaned.

I am not sure whether the "problems" are across the board, or just specific models or runs, but so far I am delighted with my late model 226R.

I don't doubt the reports of questionable SIG QC hold some weight. Having said that, I don't see it. I've been extremely pleased with my 226R (2008).

I've treated this pistol much worse than any other gun I've owned because I was curious if the alleged QC issues could be brought to the surface quicker through neglect. All I accomplished with this was an extra dirty gun that needs some springs.

Of course this means nothing to anyone except me, because it is a sample of one. What do I care? My gun works, and I'm a considerably stronger shooter because of the time I've spent with a TDA trigger.

The SIG is going to be hard to replace in the long term in case you regret selling it. If it were me, I'd hang onto it and save up for the P30.

I agree with this reply.

If you're still issued/using the M11, or any other "Classic" DA/SA SIG-Sauer, I'd counsel keeping (and continue to use/practice) the P228. If operationally, currently and in the foreseeable future you're done with the SIG platform(s), then the trade/switch might be well justified.

If you just want a quality, proven SIG, keep the P228 and save up for the P30.

Best, Jon
