I don't know about you all, but I really enjoyed this match. I liked shooting each stage two times so I could choose a different approach. I know it helped on stage 1.

Not sure yet how I feel about it... huge fan of no-shoots though.

:D

I did like the opportunity to run the stages twice - I think in most cases my scores did improve on the second run. I did lament the absence of a final 'super stage' though. :p

Thanks to Todd and Fred for running another great match.

Loved this setup. Thought it was great for new shooters, as there were no move-and-shoots. Enjoyed being able to shoot each stage twice. Got a chance to improve. Thanks to everyone for a great shoot

At first I wasn't sure I liked the idea -- seems like you don't get enough stages. But I really liked getting to do each one twice. I learned a bit, but it wasn't just repetition 'til you gamed it through.

I hope we see this setup again, if not always.

Note that points down and penalties were combined for both runs of a stage, making it difficult to see the difference between your first run and your second. We'll fix that for future matches if folks like the "multiple runs of fewer stages" approach.

There's nothing that would prevent us from doing two short stages (shot twice each) and a final "grand" stage (shot once). There are some issues with the "grand" stage idea altogether, but that's more appropriate discussion for another thread.

I had fun with this one, though I also kinda miss the "super stage" and the "shoot'n'scoot" that such stages require. I also got video of my run:

Disappointed I missed this, working the graveyard shift. Congrats to Todd and James as usual, hope to make the next one.

I like the first stage where the other squad members couldn't see the shooter. You don't really know how they ran it, and the issues with their approach, so it makes you think harder about your plan.

I also missed the run-n-gun super stage. For me, I use this as practice also, since there isn't really a range in the area where you can move and shoot at the same time. And since the super stages required many more shots, you actually had to plan and count out your rounds and reloads. But the variety is good. The past few KSTGs have been very unique, from the spinning target to the lying down stage we did last night. Either way, it was a blast. Have nothing but good things to say about a well run match. Thanks to everyone

Thank you for a fun match. The Elevator Stage was outstanding and I also enjoyed Stage 3 - shooting from the ground. I like this layout where you get to run short stages twice better than the long drawn out combined stage finale.

Awesome job captioning the video. It adds a lot of value.

Nicely done and great video. I'm never envious but always impressed by anyone who shoots IDPA/KSTG with a revolver. It looks exhausting.

I won't speak for the others that set up but my thought in not having a super stage was that we had done that the last 4 or 5 times. It was time for something a little different, and I think this set up provided both a fun match, and a bit of a learning environment. I did not see much difference between my two runs and that tells me that I am doing a good job managing pre beep jitters and that my fundamentals, while no where near where I want them to be, are at least settling a bit. I don't think the superstage is gone, but probably won't be an every match thing. I would like to throw in a big thanks to all that came out. Running these matches is much easier when everyone pays attention and participates in the pasting, and we have been having great crowds.

Was the round count exactly 50 (assuming you shot the minimum required)? The match design made for a lot of learning without breaking the bank, which is certainly appreciated in the current climate.

Yup. I took only one extra shot; total round count was 51. Without that extra shot, it would've been exactly 50.

"Anyone" equals...me? I think with the exception of TJ, once, I've been the only wheelgunner at the KSTG (and the USPSA matches that TKA's been putting on for the past several months).

But yeah - it took me nearly three times as long to shoot the KSTG this time as it took the leaders. I was nearly out of breath by the end of it. Or was it my smoky reloads?

Yes, it was 50... but by coincidence more than purpose. We always try to have the match require 50-60 rounds without making up silly hosefest stages just to burn ammo. If we go less than 50, people start to complain that they paid too much money for too little shooting. There have been some really good stage designs we've had to reject or backburner simply because they didn't maintain an adequate round count.

What's the best way to stay informed about matches then? I don't always get a chance to go to the NRA with my travel schedule, and I doubt they'd want me calling and pestering them.

I'm eager to redeem myself after my crappy performance in December. :-)
