I've been shopping around for a flashlight to add to my EDC, and I've come to think that a strobing flashlight would be handy dandy.

I kinda wanted a flashlight that would do low/high/strobe with a good UI, but it seems like I may be barking up the wrong tree.

any opinions on the light linked above? UI is tap on/tap off, if you hold down the tailcap switch it strobes, lights out when you let go (whether you started strobing from light on or light off). Seems easy to use.

side note, manual strobing: is it a good option? If so, an LX2 might be preferable.

I've not heard of this light until reading your post. I am familiar with the seller, he's a retired CHP officer and does some training. The light looks ok, I've not had the opportunity to play with or use one. I'm a huge SureFire fan and have an LX2 that is a great light. I prefer the high output on the first push upon activation or a push through like on the LX2 for low to high. My suggestion/opinion would be to stick with something from SureFire or even Streamlight, like the LX2 or E2D LED or Viking Tactics L4 all from Surefire. From Streamlight the PT2L or PT1L are good LED's with high/low/strobe and at a much lower price point than SF offerings. I can say from experience that SF will take care of any problems with excellent customer service throughout the life of the light and SF's can be changed around with different switches or heads depending on your user needs.
A couple of other choices are Malkoff Devices and HDS Systems and some of the guys here carry 4Sevens lights with good experience. You get what you pay for in lights, just like in other gun related gear.
As for the strobe function, I'm still not 100% sold on it being an absolute necessity. I prefer a light that is simple to operate and go through the modes easily. Having said that, I just jumped into a HDS Systems 170T with all the features you mentioned wanting and have learned to go through the modes quickly/easily with a bit of practice. Let us know what you end up with for a light and try a few out at the local gun shops in your carry mode.

I don't know how I missed this my first run through on surefire's sight.

must've been that 2AM blindness.

That SureFire A2Z-S might fit the bill for you needs/requirements. That size is a bit big for EDC pocket carry, it can be done, but the slimmer E series lights take up a little less room in pockets. Give Kevin a call at http://www.brightflashlights.com/index.html
He is a wealth of knowledge on outputs and functions on all of the lights. He will spend some time with you on the phone and give pros/cons all the lights your looking at.
