I seriously tammed today. I was driving home from the range and Iko Iko came on XM First Wave. Thirty minutes later I'd Googled my fingers raw and know what all the words in the song mean.

What in blue hell are you on about?

See, now I feel compelled to Google "blue hell." It's a disease.

My version of "Tamming" involves me going down the wikihole and trying to educate myself on various subjects.

Does it count if you hear something, intend to Google it, then forget what it was but still remember there was something you meant to look up? 'Cuz that's me, all the time.

Does it count if ...

If you have to ask... no.

Etymology is a hobby of mine. I get lost in the intertubes all the time.

:(
In that case the only time I tam is immediately after reading one of Tam's posts and have to look up all the fancy words and obscure references she used.

That would be a tam2.

I've always heard of it refferred to as WikiComa, which happens to me about once a week.
Cracked.com had a similar effect until they blocked it from the work computers

One of Tamara's blog posts gets more hits than my blog does in one week. I dare not even aspire to Tamdom.

TV Tropes and the SCP Foundation are also huge time sinks. Be warned!

Now WTF is "tamming" or what does it mean to "tam"?

When we go out to eat, we often tam over the meal. Someone will ask a question, and 10 seconds later someone else has a smartphone out, reading something out loud to the rest of us.

How did people ever carry on a dinner table conversation before the intertubes? Just make up stuff and guess a lot?

The whole ability to whip out google in the middle of a debate has ruined many a good bar debates.

5-10 years ago we'd make a bet on the debate then wait til we got to a computer, now we don't even get to make a bet. It's a shame really

So I enter this thread thinking "how can a Scottish cap have anything to do with shooting?"

I will leave having cited my second favorite ethnic joke:

Did you hear about the Scotsman who lost his tam in a cow pasture? Had to try on five before he found his.

But still... to rephrase the op...

Do you woolen cap of Scottish origin?

Tokyo Automated Machinery?

This thread was so funny that I think someone should put together a wiki entry for Tamming and use this whole thread as a reference.

I did a full Tam once. It wasn't pretty. Ultimately, the answer at the end of the Internet was 42.

Thank you for volunteering. Please let us know when it's completed. I know I speak for everyone on the forum when I say it's perfectly understandable if it takes you as much as 48 hours to get this done.

I dunno. Does a person have to have permission to use another's name to describe an event, behavior or action?

I mean, I use Hookstratten all the time. :)
