So I was talking to my dad on the phone and he told me about this gem.

http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/10/ohio_maker_of_hi-point_firearm.html

From what I've heard, the distributor sold 180 pistols through a straw purchase at a gun show and the guns wound up in criminal hands. Now I'll agree with hitting the distributor for the straw purchases, but going after Hi Point themselves? That's like suing Ford because some moron got drunk, got behind the wheel of an F-150 and killed someone in the following wreck.

Thoughts?

You always go after deep pockets. Even if it's unlikely that you will succeed...you go for the deep pockets.

Unless they can show that the manufacturer knew or should have known of the criminal activity, they should be in the clear.

Legal terrorism at it's finest.

I was not aware that Hi-Point actually made firearms.

You have to go back a bit, but Beemiller, the company that actually makes the Hi-Points also owns some part of MKS Supply, the company that distributes them. Unlike the usual manufacturer/distributor relationship that you have with companies like Ruger and Lipsey's where they're two entirely separate entities, there are quite a few financial and legal ties between Beemiller and MKS Supply.
