I found this somewhat refreshing that they admitted their pre-conceived idea of what a semi-automatic weapon was to be wrong. Whether it makes a difference is yet to be seen....they really have no business banning anything.

And yet, they banned all semi-automatics anyways in total ignorance............and are pushing for the whole state to do it.

I'd say it's a huge positive step. Anything that helps move away from an opinion-based discussion towards a fact-based one is a win.

My favorite example is a woman who showed up for a basic shotgun class at a trap club a couple of years ago. She said "I've always had an unreasoning fear of guns. So I figured I'd take a class, and then if I still didn't like them it would at least be a rational dislike." You can't ask for more than that.

By the end of the class she had powdered a lot of clay birds, and was signing up for club membership.

So far that is limited to the city of Providence.

I cant take anything with the term "ban" in it seriously. I probably wont agree to additional regulation or hoop jumping for owning my guns and their accessories, but I wont even sit down and have a conversation with someone who wants "ban." Machine guns are not banned, most European countries dont ban handguns or magazines. Most regulate gun owners more than guns. I dont find it acceptable, but I find it a lot more comon sense than simply banning certain inanimate objects.

She learned, for instance, that some of the most common hunting shotguns and rifles are semiautomatic, meaning the shooter must push the trigger each time for a bullet to fire. Tanzi says she's not looking to ban those kinds of semiautomatic guns anymore.

"I have definitely learned a lot in the intervening weeks of the tragedy of what kinds of weapons we should be looking at," Tanzi says. "There is a lot more detail and understanding that needs to go into shaping this legislation."

"Okay then. It's only the BLACK ones!" :o

With SHOT show next week here is Vegas, the NRA started planning an event last October to bring elected officials to range an explain how semiautomatic weapons work. There was a small piece on the news last night from a Democratic state senator about the timing is "insensitive" but tells everyone to remain strong about pending legislation.
