A hijacked vessel that no one's paying attention to, including the ship's owner.

The individual's on the ship, represent six nations that don't have the ability or desire to pay for their rescue.

An int'l body of anti-piracy "do-gooders" that would rather see a ransom than take a chance and create casualties during a rescue.

End result, 3 years of neglect later, the total crew of pirates and captives go mad and 2 of the captives die, one killing himself by jumping overboard...

That's how I read it.

Is "do-gooder" really correct, though? Passiveness does not equate to doing right in some minds though.

Crap, you're right, I meant to put that in quotes, b/c it is more what they believe they are than what they truly are. I'll edit that now ;)
