Remember to lift with your knees, and not with your back.

Seriously, is that yours now?

Nice door.... can you build a wall strong enough to make it worthwhile hassling with that door?

Serious answer: Search your local market for a "rigging company"

Standard answer: Hire some Egyptians.

Phone rings.

Caller: Hey buddy! I need some help moving a door into my basement. There's a 6 pack in it for you.

Reply: A door? Sounds simple enough. Make it Stella Artois and I'm in. None of that cheap crap.

Caller: Hmm that's some expensive beer, but alright. (Chuckles)

Reply: I don't want to take advantage, you can have a bottle or 2.

That looks like 2 hernias and a bulging disc. Can excavate a hole in your foundation and slide it in from the outside?

Call a safe store/locksmith, they will have experience moving heavy stuff.

12,000 is more than "heavy"...you will definitely need a rigging co. They move industrial lathes and mills all the time. A gunsmith buddy of mine had a Bridegport Mill lowered into his basement...although, they said it was one way only : )

Ok, I give. What's that intended for?

12,000 pounds is a monster. I have moved a few gun safes but they weighed under 1000 pounds.

The floor in your basement would probably have to be re-poured with thicker concrete and stronger reinforcement.

I always thought it would be cool to live in an old bank with one of these incredible vault doors:

It would make one awesome gun safe!

"lift with your knee's, not your back"

I take issue with this comment. Peter Griffin says otherwise:

New to me I guess I should have said.
I already have a 1000lb door, but this one just sort of worked out. Only 25 years old or so out of a bank that's been demolished.
Talked to a buddy of mine who does cranes and other large steel structures. According to him using a 12inch by 12inch steel base it will only be 85lbs of pressure per square inch on my floor. Attached to my concrete walls that are 6 inches thick it should be good. The tough part will be getting it down the side of my house into my basement, after that it shouldn't be that difficult to install.

....after that it shouldn't be that difficult to install.

Famous last words! (aka in the South, "Hey, watch this!" followed by a trip to the ER... or worse)

Seriously though- you need to photograph the process of getting this thing in. It's going to be amazing to watch and then to see the finished install.

You're gonna need a bigger basement.

Technically, the full phrase is "Hold muh beer an' watch this!"

I wonder if you could retrofit a biometric lock that opens when you speak the elvish word for friend.

I didn't think I would ever have "door envy", but I think it just happened.

I've had a few people ask why I want a 6 ton door for my gun room,, so, it's free, and it's coooool. And hearing that people have door envy makes it even more so.

Looks like overkill to protect an LCP:D

costing it out so far, for the price to crane it in, and install it, I could buy a semi decent steel door and have it installed. It would still be a vault type door, but no where near as secure or cool. Is it overkill? yeah, but the door itself is free, so if I can get it down there, it's going in.
