Week 58: The 4567 Drill
results may be posted until 11:59pm EDT on Monday 24-December-2012.

designed by Chris Edwards (Glock Professional, Inc. (http://glockprofessional.com)) and Todd Louis Green
Range: 7yd
Target: 6" circle (download pdf here (http://pistol-training.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/6in-circ-1in-sq.pdf))
Start position: varies, see below
Rounds fired: 20

The 4567 was inspired by Gila Hayes’s “5×4″ drill and the various iterations thereof.

The drill is run four times, five rounds each, on a six inch circle, at seven yards. A shot timer is used to begin each string of fire. The four strings of fire are:

draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, two-handed
draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, strong hand only
from the ready position fire 5 rounds, weak hand only
draw and fire 5 rounds from concealment, two-handed (repeat of string 1)

For any shot outside of the 6″ circle, add 1 second to your time. Total the times (and penalties) for all four strings to determine your overall score:

Basic score total time with penalties is 4+5+6+7 = 22 seconds
Intermediate is 5+6+7 seconds = 18 seconds
Advanced is 6+7 = 13 seconds

This drill is also compatible with the Q-PT target (http://www.nationaltarget.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=NT&Category_Code=PT.com) using the inner (white outline) center of mass circle.

I had been shooting a 1911 9mm for the last couple of weeks but decided to run this drill with my G-17 that I have been shooting for years.

Gen 3 G-17 Comp-Tac Holster, 5.11 vest.

3.97, 5.38, 5.18, 3.56 one miss, score: 19.09

I ran it again with the 9mm Colt 1911, Comp-Tac Holster, 5.11 vest.

3.83, 4.84, 4.63, 3.59 clean, score: 16.89

G19 w/RMR06 in Unity ATOM mount carried AIWB in a Fricke Seraphim from under a long shirt shirt, fleece vest, and Gore-Tex jacket firing Fed AE9FP 147 gr FMJ.

Ran it twice: 17.27 (2.57(-1)/5.05(-1)/4.82/2.83) and 14.33 (3.03/4.54/3.98/2.78) clean.

Challenging conditions -- 33F, blowing 20-30 mph, bare hands, Safariland 5189, G4 Glock 34, Fed AE 147, Otte soft shell

Test 1

2.82 -0
4.32 -0
3.96 -2
3.32 -1

14.42 + 3 = 17.42

Test 2

2.86 - 0
3.97 - 0
3.70 - 0
3.04 - 1

13.57 + 1 = 14.57

Then, Mrs. GJM shot the test, same conditions this afternoon, Glock 34, Blade-Tec, Aguila ball, Arcteryx winter jacket

2.81 - 0
4.26 - 0
4.01 - 1
2.96 - 0

14.04 + 1 = 15.04

She has been working on her grip, post Vogel, and I was amazed by her splits on the first string (1.95 draw, .22, .21, .20, .23) which was down 0 points. A lot of this is the Vogel grip, BUT modified by SLG to move her back leg further back, with a more upright stance.

Good drill. My timer was AWOL so I had to improvise. Indoor turners were set to 4 seconds face time. 6" circle target, non-specific. Glock 26, Glock OEM sport holster, long shirt, fixed sights, 9mm AE 115 FMJ (AE9DP). Regular earth-people guns and gear.

My support hand only shooting is still the weak link. All strings were well within the set 4 sec face time, so 16 sec minimum. Adding misses...

16 sec + 5 penalty = 21
16 sec + 4 penalty = 20
16 sec + 3 penalty = 19
16 sec + 5 penalty = 21

If my adaptation dilutes the drill too much, disregard.

Gen3 G34, Ameriglo Defoor sights, 124gr Blazer cleanfire ammo, concealed in a t-shirt in a Keeper.

Lost the paper where I wrote down the individual string times. Total score was 13.08, including penalties for two dropped shots, one each on the SHO and WHO strings.

HK P30 V3 Heinie Straight Eight Qwiks
AIWB from under a fleece
Generic 6" circle

S1: 2H 2.59c
S2: SHO 3.92c
S3: WHO 4.79 +1 penalty and trigger freeze
S4: 2H 2.48
Total: 13.78 + 1 = 14.78

This was fired after roughly 300 rounds downrange. Shortly after finishing this drill, my V3 developed hammer follow. My LGS extended their lifetime warranty to me and it is being taken care of at no charge. More details to follow.

Second DA/SA in not that long that has ad that problem -- will be interested in what HK says. Do you start DA or cocked/locked?

I will post results. No worries though, purchased it heavily used. Put 35K through it with additional weekly DA dry fire nearly equal. So by my estimate I have pulled the trigger 75K just in DA. On the last detail strip I noticed the hammer was well worn along with the hammer axle. Should have been replaced but HK parts did not have it in stock. No worries as I have spares.

23.12.12, 40f, MARS / Colt LWC, 200LSWC@950, Fricke Joab, arcteryx cover

Curiosity is the only 1911 I own with non-slim stocks, so it took swallowing my tongue in string 3 on two successive runs before I figured out in which zip code I should begin to address the trigger WHO. Pretty groups, eight inches right.

For reals, then: 3.41, 5.02 -1, 5.95 -1, 3.20, tutes 19.58.

Me and two other very experienced shooters ran this a couple times today. One out of duty gear with a couple levels of retention or some such. What the hell is up with the standards? ;) We all came in around the Basic 20 mark.

Talk to Chris Edwards, although the numbers are quite achievable...

Of course. Some acheived them! That was self deprecating humor. ;)

Couldn't find my regular timer and had still working out the bugs on the Surefire ShotTimer App. I'm averaging in the low 20s. I need to work on my draw out of an ALS, I think that would help bring the times down even further.

I missed out on this drill the first time around. First time I shot it was in June and I came in with a score of 23.54. I have been shooting this one a couple times a month since and have improved, but not as much as I would like.

I used my M&P9 full size with Blade-Tech holster and open front concealment, as usual.

String 1: 3.46 with 2 misses
String 2: 5.81 clean
String 3: 4.72 clean
String 4: 3.36 clean
Final score: 19.35

The 18 second mark seems to mock me. One of these days I will hit it.

Merry Christmas everyone
