Since I hike/hunt with long guns, I have never met a model 70 bolt gun or AR that was too light or too smooth. I have been running thinner barrels with the light VTAC hand guard, although I am intrigued by the new Noveske NSR hand guard/rail which seems very light, smooth, with novel attachment of accessories. Anyone had hands on time with one yet?

I got to handle a 14.5" with 13" NSR at my LGS a couple of months back, I new it was going to be thin but I had no idea, and while it had no extra attachments whatsoever it felt orders of magnitude lighter than my 16" Light Recce Low Pro 'which wears an Aimpont Pro & Larue FUG in the shortest configuration'. I am most likely going to go with the NSR on my 10.5" upper, however I would like to handle a VLTOR VIS-KM 'their version of the keymod' before I commit 100%, considering all of the standard VIS is gone from Noveske's website it will hopefully not be too long before there are some out in the wild.

I just hope we start seeing more industry wide support for the KeyMod system, direct attach VFG's/AFG's along with light mounts 'LARUE *hint* *hint*' would give me everything I am after as far as rail mounted accessories go.

G., I have one in a box in my basement, waiting to be attached to other parts to make it an upper. At this point all I can say that it is very slim and light. More later, when it is all completed.

I have one on my TR gun. I like it. Typical Noveske product. Well made. Rock solid. Comfortable to hold.

Now that accessory rails are more available, I like it even more.

I assume the rail surface is smooth? While the VTAC rails that come on BCM uppers aren't too bad, the VTAC rails on the Noveske Rogue uppers are as sharp as a cheese grater!

Smooth is an understatement, like the name implies Slick is a much better term. I have no recollection of any rough edges whatsoever on the one I handled it felt very good in the hands.

Anyone know a place that has NSR's in stock? I've been looking for a while and can't find one.

Noveske Rifleworks has them in stock. At least they did. They have not answered the phone all week, and I had to resort to calling cell phone to place my order today.

I love the NSR. Put a 16.7" NSR on my precision rifle, and it is a nice system. I like the Troy/VTAC as well, but the NSR was the perfect addition to the rifle it went on.

I called Noveske Monday, and they thought some might be in this week, but told me I had to get them from a dealer. I emailed Ranier, didn't get a response and found them at Midway (b/o but due in 12/29).

G,

hit me offline on my email, and give me the details (length, number and type of rail attachments, etc). I'll get one coming my way, and then redirect it to you once it arrives.

If anyone else knows where to find one please PM me. I'm on every notify list but not willing to pay the huge increase over retail some are attempting to charge. Looking for 13".

Hey guys check out ROG tactical out of CA. They are a dealer for noveske and have great prices and seem to get NSR's in often (they sell out quickly though). I got mine from there and they had great CS and shipped super fast.

I use to have a DD MFR on my Noveske but switched to the NSR. Did a little compare contrast vs the MFR on M4C

I just received my 13.5" NSR rail in the mail today and wanted to do some compare/contrast shots with the Daniel Defense MFR 12.0" it will be replacing. These rails are both similar in more ways than one. On a side note a big +1 for ROG Tactical out of CA. I ordered this rail at 3pm EST Saturday and it arrived today, great customer service too and free shipping.

Similarities
~Free floating
~Continuous top rail
~Slots for attaching accessories only where you need them
~Emphasis on weight savings and slim profile
~Made by reputable companies with a commitment to quality

Differences
~Barrel nut, with the NSR being theoretically more sturdy/a better attachment method
~Profile with DD being tublar while the NRS has squared but rounded corners
~NSR is lighter
~NSR has a anti-rotation pin built into it for those with Noveske/MUR upper receivers. Adds a little bit more peace of mind.
~NSR is shorter and thinner side to side than the DD MFR

Both rails use a very similar method of attachment for accessories. I included a couple of pictures at the bottom of this. It looks like the NSR is a more refined and compact method compared to the DD. Both do not require complicated or annoying backing plates that require removing the rail to install. DD only offers rail sections while the NSR offers direct mount accessories like the QD attachment. Hopefully other manufactures will start making direct mount parts as well.

No new information in my post but these rails are very similar and if anyone was trying to decide between the two this may help.

I'm getting this installed this week and look forward to the weight savings, even if it is small.

Indeed. Pictures speak volumes, and I am sure helped clarify for many folks.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the photos!

You didn't happen to weigh the two, did you?

Echoing thanks for the info! Any heat discomfort during volume shooting?

Sorry for the delay. I did multiple 1-5 drills and bill drill with the gun my last range session and didn't experience heat at a level that was uncomfortable (without gloves on).

I only occasionally have access to a postal scale so I did not weigh before and after. The NSR is lighter by a few ounces (while being 1.5” longer). I think the NSR is like 7.9oz w/o the nut while the MFR is 12oz, could be wrong though. Before you start putting lights and stubby grips on the fore end it feels like your cheating. I probably would have been fine with a 11" but I'll take an extra 2.5" whenever I can get it ;)
