Anyone have/had a chopped Glock? Just to clarify I'm talking glock 34/17 chopped to a 19/26 grip lenth. Are they worth the effort? I love the 19 grip length just wondering if anyone finds a big advantage when combined with a 17 or 34 slide and sight radius.

I don't see the advantage of that. I switched from a 19 to 17 because I kept pinching my palm on reloads.

My pics are there.

I chopped a 17 to 19 length. It works well for me and I shot it at a class recently. I've never had the 19 pinching issues but I don't have big meaty mitts, either. I usually have a 17 mag as reload anyway.

I think it's about ideal in the AIWB carry position because the grip length is just enough shorter to make a difference in printing, but the longer slide is not a penalty, I might consider it a benefit in that position, actually, due to leverage/mechanics of it.

All that said, I don't know that it provides a huge enough benefit over a 19 to switch if you already had a 19, or if you had to pay someone else for the work. I just happened to have an extra 17 and time and an itch to try it.

I cut a G22 down to G27 grip length. I personally don't think there is any real advantage over just going with a normal compact or sub-compact Glock. I did it just to prove that I could. It shoot well, carrys like a dream and I have seen no performance degredation compared to an unmolested G22.

I have a 17 chopped to a 19. I think that's about the ideal setup and wish GLOCK would build them from the factory this way.

The one I have is my most accurate shooter or at least I shoot it more accurately than any other pistol I own. Prob a coincidence and not the chop job so I'm not claiming it really "helps". It just feels good and allows me to conceal it just a little easier and utilize my stockpile of 19 mags.

Ben looks like he has a long wait. Any suggestion for someone to chop a G19 grip to 26 length?

Glockworx has done two of my Glocks, no grip chop but I really like the stipple and the internal magwell is da bomb.

They'll get my 34 someday.

yeah, they did a production legal stipple and internal magwell on my 34. Turn around was like 2-3 weeks too, and great work.

I have a Glock 17 chopped to a G19 size. It is my first Glock and the platform that I have transitioned to. It is excellent in all ways, I really like it. It has G17 reliability, yet G19 concealability (sp?). I didn't so much 'chop' mine as much as belt sanded it down, checking every few seconds with a Glock 19 magazine to ensure I didn't remove to much. The angle of the floorplate changes, FWIW. It is a nice snug fit, but still allows some slight room for any slight tolerance change in between magazines. I did add half-circle cutouts at the bottom for mag-stripping if necessary.

I have no pictures of the weapon, but if I do take some I'll throw them up here. I was going to reduce the 'hump' on the back as I never really cared for the humps, but it actually hasn't bothered me at all while shooting it and has also had the effect of preventing my hand from sliding down from a high grip, so I'm not going to do too much to it, at least not right now.

I also shoot a G17 cut down to 19 size. Very handy. The best thing about them in Canada is that you can find them used for dirt cheap once in a while as they have no resale value here...people think they're ruined. So you buy one for a few hundred bucks. Meanwhile, since the 19 barrel is just short enough to be prohibited, the guys with 19s need to pay a thousand bucks or so for theirs as they need longer barrels added on to the price before they cross the border.

$350-400 for a 17k or $1000 for a 19...yeah, I'll take the short 17, please.

And of course there's never any question of parts and accessories (again probably less of an issue in the US but potentially more of a headache in Canada).

fwiw: Apologize if the photos came out a bit blurry. These were taken in low light, middle of a move, & imho came out pretty crappy, all needed tweaking.

I have been hesitent to do the grip chop mod because I've never held one. I think I'd like the finger groves removed and the back strap to be straighter but I just don't know. I find the factory gen 4 17 grip to be quite comfortable as is but the length of the grip is challenging for AIWB or regular IWB for me. I really like how SPDGG extended the heel of the grip all the way down flush with the magazine. I don't like how my palm hangs off the standard g19 grip. Now that's got me thinking.......

I'm more of a fan/purchaser/owner of the Gen. 1 and Gen. 2 Glock frames, however that is some damn nice work SPDGG.

I like a G17 chopped to G19 length, as noted in the middle pistol below:

So are Glock grip chops going to be a thing of the past with the Gen 4 models? I would think with the back straps, you might have some issues, but I haven't handled a Gen 4 enough to know.

I don't have a Gen 4 in front of me, but it seems to me it would only be an issue if you intended to use the backstraps. (Does anyone actually put those things on?)

Did a glock 22 to a 27 grip chop. Very pleased with the outcome. Anybody else done it?

Any thoughts on the possibility of incorporating a "bobtail" like they do on 1911's? When I carry my 17 AIWB, that is the only area of the grip that prints for me.

I think a grip reduction/bobtail/chop to 19 would be just about perfect for me.
