View Full Version : Who Else Got Bit by the Flux Raider?

First and foremost… I am a huge anti-SIG P320 guy. Just was a platform I never desired to get into or felt was something that appealed to me. And me being from NJ with the crappy pistol permit system… a chassis system would have been a “That Was Easy” button. I tried the Echelon (I had high hopes, especially if Flux did something for it…), but sold it since the aftermarket wasn’t there, yet.
So, the SIG Legion Raider really caught my eye. I liked the compensated slide and the complete SIG package with the two 30 rounders. Only thing I didn’t like was the color and the whole Legion BS.
No idea why I did it, but was browsing Flux’s website for more info about it. I may have signed up for a restock notification. 8/9… I got an email that the FDE version was in stock. I’m not a huge FDE guy, either. But I ended up ordering it… with a decent discount ($500, shipped). Have to admit, Flux is definitely good to go… brace shipped within an hour or so.
Now what?!?
Started off with an FDE TLR-1HL that I had from my 1911 (P320 key really puts it against the not VFG). I picked up a basic FCU off GunBroker. Ordered an M17 slide, SIG Romeo 5 (if I don’t like it, I can put on my 10.5” AR9), an M18 kit and magazines so I’d have two of each of the following; 17, 21 and 30 rounders (all in FDE). I also just submitted the Form 1 for the FCU. I ordered the flush stock, which should be a direct swap for the brace. Found a guy in southern ME to do the engraving, which is easier than shipping to THSF.
I know what you may be thinking… if you don’t like the P320, why the M18 kit? I guess s***s and giggles… but also to allow me to use it as a traditional pistol. Figured I’d try it out, even though the Raider’s safety is what pushed me to jump down the rabbit hole.
Right now, I have the braced setup with FCU and red dot… M17 slide should be here tomorrow or Monday. Red dot appears to be perfect in regard to height. The brace deployment is just cool! I plan on sending it to Tactical Development for their RipStik. Have a left side safety delete coming, since that side bites my hand when switching to Fire. I was considering to suppress it, but heard a decent amount of heartburn related to suppressing the P320… so I’ll stick with an 18” OAL SBR.
I’ll get some pictures up once the slide gets here.
Anyone else get bit by this bug?

I checked these out before I picked up one of the limited run MP320 kits. The Flux Raider looks interesting in a giggles sort of way.
I have a guy in NH about 15 minutes from Portsmouth that does great laser engraving, SIG is the one who recommended him. Let me know if you want his contact info, he’s close to the SIG Academy Pro Shop in case you want to multitask.
Where are you planning on engraving? That’s been a challenge for me - there are several schools of thought on this. One is the FCU should be engraved, another is the chassis is what makes it a SBR so that should be what is engraved.

Have had a p320 flux. Great system and imo better than most of the other pcc on the market.
Sold mine but will be getting a p365 flux in a few months
I found a p320 flux only performs a little better for me vs a p365 tac ops out to about 50 yards. Past that the p320 flux def wins. Wasn't justified for me investing in thst system.
The p365 flux I am all in on

Thanks for the offer. I’m using 1776 Laser Engraving… out of Waterboro, ME. Showed him the area, sent measurements and he said it shouldn’t be an issue.

On the Raider, there is a cut right below the left side slide release. Putting my info there. It is the side opposite of the serial number and the SIG markings are inside the FCU, where the magazine is inserted. When I toss the FCU in a pistol grip, will be hidden.
Unfortunately, I don’t think engraving the Raider is an option. The FCU is what is listed on the Form 1, so need the info marked on that.

I’m not sure if that’s correct. You can engrave things other than the lower receiver of an AR even though that’s the legal firearm and where the serial number is.

While you are correct that those engravings can be done elsewhere as stated in (a)(2), unless you are engraving on the barrel… I don’t think on the Raider works.
To not make another screenshot (unsure how Tapatalk would like that), this is the definition in the NFA that I feel kills the Raider being engraved…
Frame or receiver. That part of a firearm which provides housing for the hammer, bolt or breechblock and firing mechanism, and which is usually threaded at its forward portion to receive the barrel.
While the Raider houses the FCU, the FCU houses the fire control parts (Fire Control Unit). It has the serial number on it, which the part prior, (a)(1), states the FCU is the “frame or receiver.”
So in a similar logic, if I SBR a Beretta 92… I can just get the grips engraved, since they house the fire control parts?
That being said, I put the related statute up so people can decide on it for themselves. ARs in themselves are the cluster-f*** of anything related to receiver definitions, since the upper seems more likely the “frame or receiver” than the lower. For me, the FCU is the logical place to engrave, especially with the window on the Raider for it. Doing it elsewhere… I wouldn’t feel comfortable with it.
*Fixed the definition quote so it didn’t make my head hurt.

If it were me I would definitely want the FCU engraved so you could potentially put it inside other chassis systems that may be available in the future.

I just sighted in my new Raider X with brace. It’s my first foray into the P320 ecosystem.
When first purchased there was an issue with mags not dropping free, they were binding with a scrape forming in the finish on the upper right rear corner. Three of the four P320 mags I have had to be pulled out of the mag well, making it pretty hard to use the quick mag change feature.
Flux said it was an issue with the tolerances of the FCU made by one of three subcontractors used by Sig. They sent me a shipping label and had my Raider X back to me in a few days.
150 rounds through it and so far so good. The mags now drop free like they should. Mine has a Holosun 403B and Surefire X300U-B attached. The slide and barrel are Brownells, and I installed the Tactical Development F10 top charging handle. I am thinking of some sort of linear comp to direct muzzle blast further away, but I have no experience with them and don’t know what I don’t know.
I went FDE with this. I’m going to paint the black Brownells slide to match and I’ll throw up a pic once it’s done.
If they could make a version that uses Glock magazines I’d be smitten. I’ve read Glock magazines are too wide at the top to fit in the opening of the FCU.
I have a P365 Raider that is on pre-order.

A lot of the stuff we’ve got these days really doesn’t fit into these definitions written almost a hundred years ago. It might be worth contacting the company to see what their lawyers have figured out. There’s no way they didn’t look into this. Is the Raider chassis you got from Sig engraved with their info or is everything on the FCU?
I’ve been eying the P365 Raider so I’m always interested in people’s experiences with Flux’s products.

I did not get a Flux Legion… got an FDE Raider thru Flux.
That being said, the Raiders are identical minus the color and Legion markings. Both have the window on the left for the engraving to be seen thru the Flux housing. I’d think both Flux and SIG came up with that being the solution if someone Form 1s their FCU.

So, I ordered an FDE single point bungee sling. Plan on running that on the main QD point… not the one on the brace/stock.
Also looking at a bag for it. Kind of leaning towards a Vertx Commuter Sling bag. Not going to be an everyday carry thing, maybe times when I’m not working and need some extra storage for stuff. Was also looking at an armor plate for it… but may be a down the road purchase.

I thought about the flux as a bag gun. Then realistically it did nothing special and I couldn't see the point of it as a bag gun given the size and caliber
The p365 version may be a real game changer

True… but my next sized SBR is noticeably larger.
Think my AR9 with the DOE upper comes in at like 24” OAL. PTR MP5 clone is 27ish”. Other ARs are in the 30” range. And my 14” 870 is 33”.
18” OAL Raider does make it shorter. Even if I don’t like it, I’ll likely keep it for the difference between it and other SBRs. And if I decide I really don’t like it… I can always do the B&T BWC without issue.

On the engraving location topic - I believe B&T has at least one P320 chassis is that has an engraving plate on the chassis.
As of this moment, I pretty much decided that if I Form 1 this I would engrave twice - once on the FCU which isn’t visible when mounted, and again on the aluminum of the chassis top shroud. I reached out to BATFE for guidance and was pretty much blown off.

Of course- why would an enforcement agency want to help you determine how they will apply the relevant laws and regulations? That might tie their hands later. /sarc

It was more out to 50 yards the flux didn't do a ton more for me. Vs a p365xl macro I was ccwing
It was a tad faster over a 10 round string but I don't think that is a huge ccw consideration for me.
Flux is the best pcc though or one of the best

I have a braced Raider that I travel with. No plans to buy a stock unless the law changes. Converted a police trade in x-carry I purchased for cheap. Full size Silencerco bbl, Herrington comp, light, AEMS and charging handle. 51 (30 and 21 mags) gold dots on board and I keep it in a small briefcase looking laptop bag that looks nothing like a gun case. Dumped a lot of ammo through it, easy to shoot and it runs. It replaced an mpx that I used to lug around.
Strengths
In and out of vehicles.
clearing structures - indoors you can cross threshold with gun mounted aimed in at deep corner with gear on. stupid compact
easy for "non-gun" wife and nephew to shoot it and hit shit that would be challenging for them with pistol
Considerations
It is not 100% with 124 gold dots/147 ranger and omega 9k. I purchased a spring kit that I will mess with when I have time but more of a novelty at this point.
pistol trigger on a pcc definitely different after shooting nice pcc/mpx trigger.
I am pleased with it so I bought a second one (blem) and another police trade in for nightstand.

Been thinking about bag guns again lately. My use case lines up very nicely with Chris at Lucky Gunner for a "bag gun". I don't even want to think about touching off an unsuppressed 5.56 or .300BO inside my car. This checks off a whole lotta boxes for me. I'm on the notification list.

Really like the setup… minus racking the slide. Feels comfortable, likely better when the stock is swapped in. Can’t wait for the compensator, as it will get the slide out past the housing.
Bought a safety delete for the left side from Armory Craft on eBay. The left lever bites my hand when I move to fire. I’ll wait for the Flux one to come back in stock. This one was complete garbage.
The Tactical Dev forward operating pedal came back in stock for the left side. Ordered one, as I don’t want to do a rail on the sides.
Think that’s about it… holding off until I get the Form 1 back.

Function over comfort… I prefer bringing my left hand straight back to control the slide.
The top one may be more ambidextrous, but it would be a similar (right) hand movement if I was shooting weak side.

I've also been considering a flux of either the 320 or 365 variety. I started with a TP9, but really thinking about the cost to get it set up how I would want, it just wasn't worth it for me for the performance gain, plus there are several cons to the TP9 that made me question why I would make so many concessions on something that would end up being so expensive. I'm also no fan of the 320, but had the chance to shoot the flux 320 several times and I can't deny the utility. Even as a lefty I noticed little annoyances, but nothing deal-breaking (the stock/brace deployment and the rear mag release). Even with the higher cost I think I'm going to wait until I can find the 365 flux and go that route. While the 320 flux is already pretty small, the 365 is tiny, and I like the idea of it being inside a holster in a bag I'm carrying. I also like the optic being direct mounted to the slide vs on the chassis, which also reduces weight and bulk even more.

Only issue is how low it is…
The Romeo5 on the rail is comfortable in the low mount. Peeking to see the irons can be done, but it is closer to jamming your face down on a SUB-2000 bolt tube.
I’m sure a slide mounted red dot would be in between the two… but I don’t have the desire to run it like that. Charging handle keeps the M17 slide from being used on a pistol. And for the M18 setup… I really don’t have the desire (unsure if I’ll even keep that grip/slide).
If I were using this with an issued M17/M18/P320 with a red dot… I could see chopping the top off.

It seems 3D printed… but very well done 3D printing. Like the flag on the side, don’t like the SBR/stock on the back. Fits the brace end cap, which allows for iron sights to be used. They include a spare end cap (I like spare parts) and the uninstalled QD mount. I like the mount on the gun, not so much the one on the brace/stock. Likely going to leave that off when I toss it on, as it is pointless to me.
Another month before I can meet up with the laser engraver. Mine and his vacations just didn’t line up at all. But once that’s done (other parts should be here, including the threaded barrel for the compensator), I should have it all together. Only thing eluding me is a Flux right side safety delete… but I’ll make do until it comes back in stock.

I absolutely love my Raider, I had the Raider 17 and now the X and I’ve been tweaking it nonstop. I have the 365 Raider as well but haven’t had a chance to use it yet since I’m waiting on their forward optic mount.
Maybe I love the Raider too much, I’ve been teaching myself different modeling software and started developing products that I needed/wanted to finish my Raider that nobody else offered. Charging handles and MLOK light switch mounts, now branching into Q-SERT accessories and making my own slings.

I like the Viktos bag. It’s big enough for the Raider, but not super huge. Tossed some extra 30 round magazines in it. The 17 and 21 are in the gun. The company I bought it from did a deal on a med bag. Set it up with a spare tourniquet, light, knife, etc.
Very happy with how it came out. Going to the range on Monday or Tuesday to confirm 25 yard zero… then moving to the next project to finish prior to winter.

First batch of my 320 charging handles for the Raider arrived the other day so all of those shipped out the next day but my next aluminum sample for the P365/Raiser 365 showed up as well, things are looking good. Same laser sintered A20X as the P320, still cerakoted but I’d like to make the change to anodizing if/when the order volume hopefully grows to make it cost effective.

Do you think the extended Armory Craft safety will allow the brace to fold completely? It’s only about 2mm wider than stock.

Very likely, and clean it up with a file/sandpaper/cold blue. It’ll look nasty but after missing the OEM safety on an XL frame a few times when pushing my par times in dryfire, I went AC and haven’t looked back.
I had tried a blob of sanded and shaped Gorilla Glue epoxy putty on the OEM, but it eventually fell off.

My P365 Raider came in yesterday afternoon. I’m hoping to make it to the range tomorrow to try it out.
This is going to read like a bitchy post but that’s not my intent. I’m excited a company like Flux released a product like this. At my department we just transitioned to Glock 47s with Acro P2s and Surefire X300s, having traded in our 10-year-old plain-Jane Glock 17s. For budget purposes, we’ve projected the replacement of these new Glocks in 2034. I’ll be on the verge of retirement then. I wonder what those next duty guns will look like.
First impressions-
The aluminum chassis seems to be very well made. There are no sharp edges and the control layout seems well thought out. I like the number of extra threaded holes Flux added, for future accessory use. I’d like to get a QD socket installed in as unobtrusive a location as possible, just to have the option.
I had hoped the TLR7a and TLR7x lights I already own would fit, but no luck. The front bezel of the light and the rear of the brace contact just enough where the brace snags when releasing. A bit of sandpaper and some touch up paint would probably fix this, but I’m using it as an excuse to pick up a TLR 7 HLX Sub.
The button used to collapsed the brace is very stiff to depress. I’m thinking a drop of lube and some reps might smooth it out some.
The brace release button on the right side of the chassis is already getting dinged up from closing the brace on it. It needs to be pushed forward in order to lock the brace in the folded position. I can see aftermarket or future versions of the release button extending a bit farther toward the trigger guard, for ease of use for those with smaller hands. I wear sized large gloves and my index finger is at full extension when pressing it forward. I’ll probably be removing it anyway for use with the holster, so it’s a moot point.
The Armory Craft extended safety - it seems to work, mostly. The brace will collapse and lock closed, and you can manipulate the safety with the brace closed, but it’s rubbing and putting inward pressure onto the right side of the lever to the point it’s somehow affecting the trigger pull. The firing pin will still snap but it’s a noticeably heavier trigger pull and not ideal. I’m probably going to dremel the right side lever down and test it out. This isn’t a dig at Flux as the manual flat out says to only use the OEM Sig safety.
The holster is a bit chunky for IWB use. That’s my fault for not yet shedding the Covid 20 I put on. Kudos to Flux for making a holster in the first place.
I’m really, really hoping Flux can do something similar with the RXM FCU in the next few years.

They do have a sling mount planned, no actual details yet. They also have several other accessories coming but no timeline; cheek riser, rubber butt pads, magwell, a shoulder rig type sling setup, and they’re working with a hydraulic buffer manufacturer to get one made for the 365 and 320. The first accessory to release should be their optic mount, the Flux guys are sending me one and said they should have them in about a week. I’m also in talks to provide a picatinny rail that mounts to the shroud designed by my OEM, 3D printed out of A20X aluminum like my charging handles.

After going through each post of this thread, I have decided on the following:
Flux safety delete, a must have so I ordered right away.
Virtuous side rail, single.
Virtuous optic plate charging handle.
Grayfighter sling wrap.
I originally thought of placing the X300 on the bottom but thought about the possibility of not getting enough real estate, but I will wait until at least one range session before finally deciding if the side rail will be needed or not.
I have thought about ordering the Steiner Mini Tor IR for active aiming at night, but I don't foresee using a PDW bag gun of last resort for night vision ops when I already have an 11.5 SBR AR15 that is always more practical. Plus I won't be lugging my stupid expensive 31 dual WP's anyways.

Life gave the experiences that sometimes too small can be a bad thing or at least, not the most marginal thing. The 320 checks all the blocks for me as a PDW PCC. My 365 Xmacro, while perfect for me to EDC as it's not to small to not shoot as good as a duty size, isn't big enough for me to want to use as a bag gun either when the 320 will do it better.

Yeah, one of 600 or 800 from what I can tell. Supposedly SIG put these together just before the brace ban came out, and they were sitting in a warehouse when the ban was overturned so they quickly sold them off through the Experience Center. I suspect the SIG/Flux Raider collaboration was already underway and they were just clearing the shelves. It’s a fun little toy.
I have a longer barrel on order, I was too stupid to order the special longer one SIG offered. I want the bare muzzle to be well forward of the hand shroud.

I do like it. The sawzall style handguard comes off and uncovers a polymer bottom rail; the aluminum top shell slides on and is retained by a pin. You replace the slide backplate with one that has a tab which engages with the AR-style cocking handle. I pushed the optic further forward since that pic along with a longer SIG brace body and hinge and a hook-style arm brace. I should take more pics.

Having had both I sold the p320 one as soon as the p365 one was obtained.
The p365 has a tad more recoil but can be shot just as fast and is actually more accurate at distance due to how optic mounting is on the p320 oneI've tried the 365 Flux at a range day, I could not see a use for it because I found it not much of anything useful to be blunt.
I am used to the M16 sighting height so this isn't going to be a real problem for me shouldered, I have zero intention to use as an actual pistol. So needless to say, it will still be as accurate and more since I prefer in line shouldering to brace with over the slant 365 Flux.
And yes, you've said it many more times than necessary as an absolute about the 365, however I have found the life lesson that there are zero absolutes in the gun community, only subjective based opinions being superimposed. I wish you well with the 365 Flux but that is for you that we are all aware of and not for me as your boundaries and uses for this PDW aren't mine.

It isn't the sight height on the p320. It is the frame flex on tall mount
Chopping it so you use slide mount fixes distance accuracy issue

I shoot with the owner of Flux and a few of his employees in my local matches pretty regularly, they’re great folks with excellent skills and I like them a lot.
So when I say that $1500-1800 is bat guano insane for that thing, I’m not knocking the makers, who in my opinion, set a fair MSRP. I’m knocking the market.

When they slow release things that was "OOS" but make every popular guntuber to be seen with them prevalent and reoccurring, is what is creating the demand for unobtanium because imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. KAC had it figured out, Hodge does it too. Sometimes it's the S&D, but slow releasing some on a specific date only like Flux? C'mon man, they are creating the impatience.
tl;dr: Impatient? Hardly. Bad business ethics? Yup.

They did that with the 2nd p365 release as tons of us got screwed on the initial purchase. Like I checked out with mine in my cart and then it refused to check out and said it was out of stock
But that isn't likely to happen again unf.

They are a tiny shop though. But yes the lack of supply is def an issue.
The hype release system works unf. When the p365 flux first came out someone traded a fully loaded scar heavy for a chasis.
That was the stupidest trade I have ever seen

That was the stupidest trade I have ever seenI would have honestly gone with the more reliably to be shipped B&T G17 chassis, but when I asked JMAC for an arm bar made for it to attach a Tailhook Mod 1C and they said no, this Flux was the next best thing for me.
However I may still get a B&T and SBR a 17 or a 34 for it and keep this Flux as a pistol. Not a fan of the brace for the B&T USW.
Sometimes people trade down to get what they want. Seen it in person with a friend bringing a mutt AR that he put nothing into and got for $499 before the 2013 scare at a gun show local to us, and walked out with a very mint H&R M1 Garand. Someone traded down to get what I had that they wanted and got a very used and salted USP45V1 while I got a pristine SA TRP Operator.
Anyway, it's their money and property so stupid to us it may be we really have zero say in it and not out lanes to opine.

A word of advice- Flux wasn’t kidding when they said to only use the OEM safety.
While the Armory Craft safety works, flicking it on and off safe with the brace closed will result in the right side lever eventually snapping off.
Conveniently for me it broke where I had planned to dremel the right side lever off, flush with the frame.

I’ve liked the Raider X…
Seeing the Raider 365 in this thread, been back and forth on it. Was restocked today… and I may have bought one with the long stock. With discount, it worked out to $775ish.
I have other projects going on, like the VZ61 and a SBS Coach Gun… but nice thing is I can leave it in my office and worry about it when I get time/ambition. Don’t even have a 365 yet to Form 1. Might buy the brace adapter when back in stock, then I can see if I really want to SBR it.
For those with them, safety or no safety? I was never a fan of the 365 safety… but feel the larger platform should have one.
I might also look at using my Dead Air Odessa on it, as I finally got it off my AR9 (now has a 10.5” Angstadt Vanquish). Stayed away from that nightmare with the 320.

Something light and handy, easy to deploy, not a pain in the ass to install. The USW certainly checks all those boxes. I'm just not convinced it does all that much for someone with decent pistol shooting skills, having of coonfingered one, given the extremely short LOP of the stock (though I feel the same about the Raider).

Odd is right. It’s just the bare chassis, I have no interest in adding the shrouds and other gadgets. One issue is that using a slide mounted optic like I’m doing forces you to drop the brace to low on the rear 1919, but it works. Ideally I’d look for a visor type brace, but the idea is not to spend money on this and only use stuff I already have like this SIG brace. I’m trying to find the 1913 finger stop I have tucked away, I’d prefer keeping my fingers intact.
