Wow. From the article:

He was charged with illegally possessing a 9mm Glock pistol which had been packed up and returned to him by colleagues after he had to leave Iraq in a hurry to help organise the funeral of two friends killed in action.

Nothing like 17 years of service, 11 with the SAS and running home to set up fellow soldiers' funerals, and then still getting shafted by the government you fought to protect.

That gun was bought by US taxpayers, issued to the Iraqis who then re-gifted it to him. I guarantee it.

I seen this the other day makes me mad as hell and my country isn't far behind they are talking about bringing in mandatory sentencing for owning unregistered guns, 5 year jail just for owning a gun that isn't registered.

Just owning it not being a criminal, just having granddads sweet old Rem Mod 8 in the cupboard will see you get five years...jail.

Don't let them do this to your country.

I wish the article clarified how the gun was found instead of just stating "It was found in a locked box in his home". Seems rather odd to me or maybe I just misread something.

Kinda like our country considering our returning veterans to be a terroristic threat (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/apr/16/napolitano-stands-rightwing-extremism/).

"In May 2011, he was living with another soldier in a house, when he was posted to Afghanistan and while he was away police raided it after claims of an assault by the wife of the other soldier."

The article mentioned it was a gift from his Iraqi colleagues. I assisted in dispersal of thousands of G19's in 2005, and witnessed the problems with accountability among the indigenous issuees. Despite the origins, I'm happy it ended up in good hands, but sad for the end result.
