Anyone have any success with a product like this running minis through a 590?
Apparently it’s supposed to allow function with both mini and typical 2 3/4 shells.

I bought that kit when it first came out. I found it didn’t work worth a damn in my Shockwave. I went back to the Opsol for mini shells.

I’ve got two Shockwaves set up with the Defender Tactical short shell kits and I haven’t had any issues running anything from 3” shells to 1.75” shorties in them. I’ve had one of them for a few years now in an 18.5” configuration and when I had the itch for a 14” I decided the 590 Shockwave plus DT kit was much cheaper and had the same functionality as a 590s Shockwave so that was the route I chose.
I much prefer the DT kit over the OPSol adapter as the DT kit stays put when installed and run hard, at least for me.

I installed a Defender Tactical short shell kit on my Shockwave.
It’s worked perfectly with all the 2.75” shells I’ve run through the gun with it installed. Probably around 200 so far.
I’ve only put one magazine of 8 rounds of short shells through it. They’re too expensive for practice and my gun doesn’t pattern the #4 buckshot particularly well.
I feel like short shell feeding is kind of a gimmick unless the shells become as cheap as normal birdshot loads.

Your probably well aware, but Mossberg's "s" line of shotguns come ready from factory for minishells to 3". https://www.mossberg.com/firearms/shotguns/590s.html

I've always found the mini shells thing interesting from a capacity perspective, but are there any mini shell loadings that meet the FBI minimum requirements?

Pretty sure Federal's mini Slug will since its 1 oz Foster at nominal 1200 fps https://www.federalpremium.com/shotshell/federal-target/shorty-shotshell/11-SH129+RS.html
I wouldn't personally trust their goofy split 6 pellet OO buckshot or the No 4 Buck in the minishell YMMV
But for standard length low recoil, that might fit in minishell if one of the decent factories made it, is Fiochi No 1 Buck (my fav HD size) in a 9 pellet loading see this post or even whole thread https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?58708-Low-recoil-8-pellet-vs-low-recoil-9-pellet-OO-buck-felt-recoil&p=1544631&viewfull=1#post1544631
Or standard length but very soft for 2.75" 12 gauge load the Hornady 8 pellet OO buck which appears to be lowest recoil more or less standard loading https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?58712-A-look-at-Hornady-Versatite-8-pellet-00B
Also for low recoil the 410 with the 4 pellet OOO in 2.75' shells or 5 Pellet OOO in 3" shells, which seem to pattern very tight at least to 7-10 yards probably because they squich to near bore size on firing https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?58708-Low-recoil-8-pellet-vs-low-recoil-9-pellet-OO-buck-felt-recoil&p=1524018&viewfull=1#post1524018

I'm having good luck with the DT adapter in my Shockwave so far.
I just posted in this thread I have going about my Shockwave.

The DT products are working well for me so far. Granted I need to run a few hundred more mixed rounds through it to be totally sold, but I'm working on that. :)
