I bet they don't see the irony at all in having amended the city constitution to elect the most anti-gun mayor in the US to a third term. Sucks to be them.

They willingly gave up their 2A rights for perceived security.
I doubt any lessons will be learned.

I have sympathy for what the storm has done to them.
They are responsible for the aftermath.

It is far too tempting to toss some Nagants and old shotguns into the care packages going out.

Should have defended themselves at the polls a long time ago.

That would be AWESOME. lol. Reissuing Mosin-Nagants to the people just has such flare to it.

Use Big Gulp cups as parachutes to drop 'em in.

And the Borough President of Brooklyn asked for the National Guard, due to all the looting. His Imperial Majesty Bloomberg the First, Viceroy of New York, shot it down.

And I quote: “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”

Nice.

From the New York Post article:

"Chris Lane, a 50-year-old resident of the Coney Island Houses, put together a small arsenal with his double pump action gun."

Nice, I havent heard about double pumps since Preston & Child's novel "Still Life with Crows"

Guns are not illegal to own in NYC.

You do need a license to own a longarm or a handgun. Anyone in NYC with a clean background can get a license, though it is a huge pain in the ass. Thus it's a big discouragement for people who want to get started in firearms.

There are a bit over 21,000 pistol license holders in NYC (not counting retired LEOs) and about the same number of people who own longarms permits. I don't know how many people have both both a longarm and handgun permit, but when you consider that there are over 8 million people who live in the five boroughs of NYC, it equates to less than one out of 400 people who is a legal gunowner. With such a relatively small number of gunowners, and a small number of gun ranges, it's hard for new people to get started or be drawn in to firearms.

Hopefully after this, more NYC residents will investigate becoming a firearms owner.

The laws are different for the rest of NY State that lies outside of NY City. While you still need a permit to own a handgun, you can buy a longarm by going into a gunstore and filling out the yellow form and then take it home.

Below is a photo from Long Beach, just 30 miles outside of NYC. The caption reads: "Kevin MacLachlan will not leave his home on Michigan Ave. in Long Beach, N.Y., because he is worried about looting." If you look closely you see that he is cradling what appears to be a Remington 870 shotgun:

BTW, that is not a beach house. That is sand that washed up and covered the grass and sidewalk.
