To not derail the mouse gun thread:

I was already thinking of resurrecting the G42.

I had bought a DPP Micro for it months back.

109881

109882

The thought being that I’ve used Airsoft Glock trainers for my family and nephew.

Some day it might be a good option for my daughter.

I have a G42 from when I started shooting and carrying. An Airsoft version of the gun from that time.

Here they are side by side:

109877

At some point I changed the sights on both of them to match.

109878

I remembered something funny about the rear sight but I can’t remember what it was.

Looking at it, I might have drilled and pinned the rear sight but I have no recollection of doing so…

109879

So theoretically the clamp style dovetail of the DPP Micro might work just fine in a loose dovetail.

I also thanks to the Schwartz bought a Zev G42 in 32ACP

109880

Although it’s yet to be seen if it’s actually lower recoil than the 380 due to the sloped ramp that Bucky pointed out is used on blank and starter pistol barrels.

If not, Mike C offered to help me with low recoil 380 loads and I might change the top ramp of the G42 barrel hood to offer less resistance to lower power round.

Eagerly awaiting the range report on the Z32. With my wife's hand limitations I've looked those over a few times (they've had 3 on GunBroker forever, now 2 I would guess). Other than the price, magazine availability has held me back. Not sure if a regular G42 magazine would work and, if so, if rimlock and feeding issues would rear their heads with a non-32 designed magazine. Haven't been willing to experiment at the price...

I am much more comfortable with kids shooting long-barreled handguns, like a Ruger 22/45 Lite. By the time my girls were old enough that I thought they could handle a subcompact safely, they were strong enough to handle a Glock 17. Girl #1 now has a Glock 43 which fits her child-size hands.

I can do a full report when I get it with any information that would help you and your wife!

My thought was 5 years of super dry fire and Airsoft ninja without any live fire.

Skip rimfire completely (because lead) and scale up in size as her hands grow.

It’s a half baked plan and so far she hasn’t shown much interest except to ask for a unicorn rainbow peew…

I'm perfectly willing to accept a range report detailing how your acquisition performs with whatever FMJ and JHP ammo you decide to feed it in lieu of my customary "finder's fee''. ;)

Is the reduced width of the G42/ZEV slide going to present any issue with fitment of the Leupold micro RDS?

Looks like it might ''overhang'' laterally.

Yes, I'm interested in a detailed report, as well.

Why are you considering a Leupold micro DPP versus a 507k or other optic you could have direct milled? It doesn't seem like budget is the constraining factor, in this case.

I had the same concerns with my kids (now 18 and 15). Most cheap .22 lr is TMJ, since the bullets are copper plated, which is better than the exposed lead bases of FMJ bullets. We practiced safe lead handling (washing hands after firing) and shot outdoors. When we come home from shooting, the kids immediately take showers and their clothes go into the laundry.

The one good thing about the pandemic is that it acclimated my family to wearing masks. I have N95 masks in the range bag for when shooting indoors. I wear one, too, when shooting at indoor ranges outside work. My last blood lead level test came out better than previous years, so it is working.

Size, weight and function. I’m not sure how much margin a G42 or Airsoft or Z32 has in energy to spare when limp wristed.

This is a good reversible proof of concept to see what the weight limits are.

That’s a heck of a deal!!

Wonder how long it takes to ship a gun from Nigeria? :D

(I’m sorry our LEO members for the stolen valor, I just wanted him to pee his pants a little)

So I thought that would be the end of it… but got a chuckle out of this a few minutes later…

And then I thought it was over…. But…

109901

Haven’t heard anything more, lol.

When I got home… the clue should have been that the picture on the ad… was one of the pictures from the actual Gunbroker auction that I won, just with the serial blacked out. I couldn’t see it on my phone at the time. Doh!

I’m mainly posting so that others looking for a Z32 don’t fall for this scam.

I too have been very pleased to be blessed with the doing business transactions with this honorable former Army Officer who provides A-1 excellent delivery services for real guns.

But I was really lucky when he introduced me to his auntie Mrs Linda White who does trading and helped me to buy my entire family new legs after the train derailment accident. Our stories were on CNN news about how she changed our lives.

Will test with different ammo if I get a chance today.

Man, I'm a sucker for anything in .32 and I'm pissed that I didn't know this existed. Makes me think that my desire to rebarrel/re-engineer .380 pistols to .32 ACP or .32 NAA may still have merit. Hmmmm...

I'm anxious to hear more about this and am now off to see if I can find one for myself.

Very cool. Glock-after-shrinkage-in-dryer meets RDS-after-shrinkage-in-dryer. Very very curious about how the mass does or doesn't affect performance and reliability on a 42 vs. 9mm+ Glocks.

Impressions are that the slide has enough margin for the weight. I think a traditional small optic would work without malfunctioning.

I used two types of wimpy ammo. Gun is stock except for sights and optics.

No malfunctions.

DPP at distance works pretty much like a traditional red dot. I don’t notice the window size limitations at distance.

Close up it’s ghost ring.

Medium range and fast speed is where it would give way to a large window dot but I don’t think give up much if anything to irons.

It’s been 6 years since I shot this gun and I’d have to do a little specific work on my ergos with this gun to bring it up to my full potential, but it’s passable for a “pick up and go” option for me.

I have all kinds of half baked, half finished projects lying around and when I get time or motivation I’ll tuck into one or the other. In this case it was the impending Z32 that got this one out of mothballs.

the Schwartz and I bought the Glock DPP Micros when they were being closed out for something cheap. I don’t remember exactly how much, but I think it was $170 or something like that. So I bought it and left it in the project room gathering dust.

We mounted one of these up on dad’s G44. He has vision issues and a red dot is the only thing he can see. Not enough testing yet to know if it will effect reliability.

Good luck. They are, at best, difficult to locate and expensive when you do. If you are frugal like me (I'm a first class cheap ass), another way to go about it might be to check out Zev online for the conversion parts (not sure if it is a straight ''drop in'' proposition or if fitting is required) and have the work done to a brand new Glock 42.

Sometimes they pop up on GunBroker. Rarely.

I think, at some point, Salient might have offered parts for such a conversion, too, but I am not sure if that still remains the case.

If I recall correctly, I think we picked them up for about $130 + shipping. Mine resides on a G34 that gets a lot of range time as a way of acclimating myself over the long term to use of an RDS. Once the use of an RDS becomes purely reflexive and second nature to me, I will mount the second Leupold micro DPP on my dedicated carry weapon, a Glock 17.3 (my old issued duty weapon that I cleaned up last year, if you recall from our PMs) that still wears Heinie 320C irons 'cause I'm an old war horse.

Was able to shoot it for 6 rounds before daughter had swimming.

I would have to compare them back to back but it didn’t seem particularly softer than a standard G42.

The magazines look like a proprietary build rather than modified Glock magazines.

It would be interesting if I can come up with a higher capacity solution using a Glock mag. Getting more rounds in a small package seems like the only tangible advantage I can see of getting this over a standard G42.
