Has anyone seen the new Federal Premium No. 1 Buckshot?

I'm looking for a good home defense No.1 buckshot to minimize over penetration. I don't like the way No. 4 patterns.

I like No 1 buckshot, so do many others.

IMO No 1 or Single O would be better than OO for most self defense usage but OO is the standard in Law Enforcement so that's generally what you can get for higher quality and premuim features light FLight Control and Low Recoil.

IIRC there is a whole thread somewhere here lamenting the limited or out of production of Flight Control No 1 Buck and people jumping on it being available (for a time?) https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?33229-Federal-FC-1-Available

IDK what the deal is with that article if you follow it to Federal's website there are not any No 1 buckshot listings except for 16 gauge.

I think I still have few shells of Remington No 1 Buckshot around.

You can expect slightly more than 19 inches of soft tissue penetration from a 2¾'' 12-gauge 16-pellet #1 buckshot shell fired from an 18.5'' barrel. My retiring agency issued the Remington Express 16-pellet #1 buckshot loading for use in our 11-87s and although it never saw wide use against (human) suspects in the field, its performance against 4-legged ''problems'' was commendable.

If the Federal #1 Buckshot loading is no longer available, there may be other options that offer acceptable patterning at range in your shotgun.

Dropped a number of deer with number one buck over my lifetime. Of course that means nothing in terms of personal, self-defense use.

But I chose it because my fire chief at the time, who was a retired Marine, had a saying:

" if you can't get the job done with 16 30-caliber pellets, you just need to hang it up and go home".
