Did a search and didn’t find anything, so here goes…

Let’s see what you have! Extra points for artistic setup and background. This is everything from .22LR to .500 Nitro Express (does that exist?), Super Vel to Speer G2, and and M193 to Mk262.

Here’s a blast from just before my past. This round was phased out about a year or so before I started, but it still shows up in duty turn-in occasionally to this day.

I've got some of that but in .44 Magnum. Unfortunately, there's no box. It's slated to be shot the next time I take the OMSBH to the range so I can use the brass.

My avatar pic is some of Tom Burczynski's original .38 /.357 offerings of the Hydra-Shok design before it was acquired by Federal Ammunition. The first "post & cavity" load offering was a full wadcutter (.38 Spec) and was simply branded Scorpion. For a start-up ammo company, I felt like the number of SKU's might have been ambitious and as it turns out, most of the various loadings did not make it to market under the Federal label.

The jacketed loads were referred to as the Copperhead and Hunter, and the all lead bullet offerings were called the UPL (Urban Police Load).

These metal penetrating loads were made from the 30's up through the 60's by several makers.

Box markings; “These cartridges are adapted to Colt Automatics and Thompson Sub-Machine Guns.”

A buddy gave these to me a few years ago because he knew I have a moon clip 45. I'm afraid to take them out of the box for fear of damage to the box.

A friend who powder coats bullets has sent me a bunch of his examples. These are 9mm 128 grain cast lead hollow points that have been coated.

Great bullets, which is no surprise as he does amazing work and is a top notch bullet maker, as well as an amazing handgunner.

The round of ammo is a bit hard to see, but I used .38 Special powder coated bullets from the same gentleman who sent me the bullets I showed a couple posts ago (in 9mm) to shoot the jack. Using a Combat Masterpiece. Tackdriving load and gun.

A small order of .45 ACP arrived today, spent a few happy minutes loading up for my next range session.

108908

The HST was on sale at $0.60 cpr from TargetSports USA, so picked up a couple boxes.

The "New Republic" is 230 FMJ, which at $19.99 a box of 50 new/brass I thought it would be worth checking out a couple. It's from the "European Union" but I'm not precisely sure where. A quick Google search of one source said it was made "in Hungary at the MFS factory owned by RUAG Ammotec Group, which owns other known ammo brands including NORMA, GECO, RWS, etc.". Which is ok, I gather TargetSports has a deal with them to import and sell in the USA. But hey 40 cpr is 40 cpr.

I checked a few rounds and they appear all the same OAL. It is listed on their web site as 853 fps, which would put it the same velocity as Sellier and Bellot SB45A I've purchased before. Not quite as zippy as Federal AE, which lists as 890, but if it runs, I will probably buy some more as range ammo.

I'm in the process of switching from the Shield 1.0 I've carried for 5 years or a little longer over to a P365XL. I usually pocket carry a spare mag "just because" and as I was unloading the spare Shield mag, I realized that somewhere along the way I fell out of the routine of rotating my mags and my carry ammo...

That's a good illustration for "Why you should burn through the ammo you carry on a yearly basis".

I'll carry a speed strip in a pocket, but not a spare magazine.

In my horde of 38 Especial brass I have run across a few pieces of S&W head-stamped brass. I recently ran across a box of 158 gr +P 38 ammo so I picked it up.

My original intent was to poke some fun at myself but I've realized it's actually a graphic, teachable moment. After giving it a little thought, I see several failures in my picture.

Failure to cycle through carry ammo
Failure to alternate carry and spare magazines
Failure to actually work out my edc gear on a regular basis
Failure to properly secure my spare magazine

At a minimum I should have unloaded one or both mags every few range trips and at least fired a few mags of ball through the Shield. The silly thing was on me every time I went to the range (including the spare mag) and I was already shooting some flavor of 9mm pistol 99% of the time I went.

I need to look at spare mag carry options. I don't want to belt carry one for several reasons and I'm not willing to redo what I pocket carry for something like a Neomag carrier. I may simply have to be diligent about cleaning the spare weekly and rotating magazines (and ammo!) on a regular basis.

This humble round of HST is the one that convinced me to rotate my carry ammunition more frequently, and not reuse carry rounds that have been previously chambered (even once).

With a little seasonal décor just to be "artsy." :)

I see the primer dent…. Did it fail to go “bang”, or is that a result of a previous chambering?
Or is there a bullet setback issue from rechambering that I can’t discern?

Interesting…. Any theories? Oil contamination, some other consequence of spending a long time in the chamber, or just bad primer to begin with?
I’m just trying to understand how this episode supports rotation/cycling of carry ammo.
I’m certainly not opposed to it - just wondering your rationale.

Oil/solvent contamination can be an issue, although personally I doubt oil/solvent was a factor in this case since I don't leave my chambers/bores "wet."
Carrying subjects one's ammo to more temperature and moisture fluctuations.
Have also read that chambering a round multiple times can break up the primer "cake" thus rendering the primer inoperable. Haven't experimented with this to validate, but sounds reasonable.
Of course, it could have been a bad primer to begin with.

Nonetheless, it's motivated me to do what I can to further reduce the probability of a future occurrence to as close to zero as I can get it - hence being more diligent rotating my carry ammo.

(Which has the added benefit of more practice with and reliability validation of my carry loads. Anywhoo. . . don't want to get too far afield from the thread topic.)

Dug this out because I wanted to take a .30-30 and .38-55 comparison pic. It has to be 40 years old if it's a day. Maybe older. Dad was/is the stereotypical "buy a box, confirm sight in, go hunt" type. We might have 1-2 additional range trips during the year when we went camping at the deer lease but those were more about BB guns, .22s and bird hunting. I found several other newer boxes (including some made in this century!) I'd forgotten about having. I've been thinking about taking the old 94 to the range since it's been at least 10 years since it was on the range. I'll shoot the newer stuff for sure but I might take this along for pictures.
