Of course they announce this right after I buy a Specialist to cut for an optic…

That’s a pretty appealing package honestly. The optic plates look decent too.

When that's offered as a 9mm Commander with a K series plate i'll be getting one.

I'm not an pistol optics guy but I keep hearing it's better to get your pistol cut for your optic than to go with a factory pre-done cut. Maybe in some cases?

Something like that might just get me to make the jump.

Interesting they’re not offering an option for 9mm. I’d like to see how the optics plate setup works, I wish it had the ability to use standard height sights but if they make this available in 9mm I may also be in too.

Depends on the system, the plate and how well you install/keep an eye on your screws.

The plate system can work very well.

Direct cut is stout but has downsides. Married to a certain optic, slide refinish, sometimes resale is difficult etc.

I would agree. I also hope for a day we standardize, but I don’t think we’re near that.

The ACRO is probably the best mounting option IMHO, but it would require re-design by everyone. Which… will probably not happen.

When DW did the minor design update to the Specialist models for 2020 they dropped the 9mm Commander altogether, which I also thought was a strange move.

Agree fully.

Out of all the optics ready pistol setups I’ve tried. The FN 509 Mrd with an Apex acro plate is by far the best. Their factory cut combined with a one piece plate and the acro mounting is damn good.

While not for sale, if you look at the CZ parts website there is a 4th plate listed for the ACRO in the specs. So I assume that is on the way. Looks like optics plates are already available for $69.99.

I’m not sure if this was in general or aimed at us. We were talking about getting away from adapter plates all together what would be best.

Good to see they’re going to be supporting everything though.

Exciting times!

Just in general, but for those who are interested in mounting an ACRO it looks like that may become an option.

I am a pistol optics guy. Not necessarily.

In the early days of pistol optics, when we didn’t know, we didn’t know about mounting pistol optics on a reciprocating slide there was a distinct advantage for a direct mill versus something like the MOS with factory plates or the CORE.

We’ve learned a lot about optics mounting and the role it plays in reliability since then.

Direct mill is durable and reliable, but given the lack of a standardized footprint, a modular optic system can be equally effective while future proofing the gun.

The Glock MOS with FCD plates, the FN 509, or the Chambers plate system for 1911 /2011 are examples of very solid modular mounting solutions. We’ll see how DW’s offering compares.
