I bought one of these from AIM Surplus for $279.00. Ordered on April 2nd, shipped on April 5, arrived at my FFL on April 8, I picked it up today.

I thought it was a good price and was pleasantly surprised to open the box at the FFL and find what appears to be a new, unfired pistol.

My plan is to do Dawson FO sights, plus an Apex trigger and conversion barrel. That way I'll have the ability to shoot both 9 and 40 - I have about a hundred thousand rounds of once fired forty brass.

Base pistol @ 280 + Apex Conversion Barrel @ 200 + Apex Flat Faced Polymer Forward Set Trigger @ 110 = 590.00 for the package. That sounds okay for me.

I checked the link.

It does not show the pistols as 2.0 in the description, and the photo is a first generation M&P40.

If they were 2.0, I may jump. But not for the original.

Seconded. Not that $279 is a bad deal for any M&P40, good caliber for the platform. But I much prefer the 2.0 ones.

I owned the 1.0 version of the .40... I traded it off rather quickly with zero remorse. Swore off M&P until I shot the 2.0 and realized they had really improved the trigger.

The M&P 45c 8-round is no longer offered in the 2.0 version. It's listed as a 3.5" barrel, but it is a 4" barrel. Nice pistol. Good opportunity to add one to your stable!

No disagreement, I am not a fan of the first-gens. I kept my first gen 1.0 because I got it extremely well-priced and unissued, and relegated it to my "reliable but crappy and I have no sentimental attachment" gun for anti-cougar duty on hikes using FMJ.

It's marginally better now because I swapped the backstrap with one from my 2.0 .45, but I still never intended to buy another M&P before the 2.0 ones. Those plastic silverware triggers and slick grips were rough.

For me, the improved trigger action and more aggressive grip texture were enough for me to purchase a 2.0 45acp.

I'd call them to check. Here's a picture of my slide:

BTW - I posted my opinion this had never been fired after a cursory examination and being pumped from getting such a clean pistol. There is minimal holster wear, and as you can see from the cocking striations it's dirty.

The 2.0 versions are only $20 more on the site.

I'd get one if it was the version with the thumb safety. I'm such a yokel that I'm okay with the triggers on my 1.0s (.40 and .45).

On the 2.0s and later 1.0s adding or deleting the safety is just parts swapping. No modifications necessary.

I ran a 1.0 5” slide 40 for about 7 years. I had about 15k rounds through it when I turned it in (doing regular spring changes) I broke one slide stop and that was it. I also have a 5” 2.0 that was my limited gun when I competed and the only thing I added was a Dawson fiber front and black rear. I really enjoy the 40 in the M&P series.

how does the mp safety work? I am a little weary of carring a fully tensioned striker appednix.

It flips up and down like the safety on a 1911 or a CZ-75. It blocks the trigger but doesn't keep the slide from moving, so you can apply the safety when loading if you want.

Some folks don't like the position of the safety; it's not exactly the same place as on a 1911. I'm fine with it. It's not as positive as a 1911's because it doesn't have the 1911's plunger and spring adding tension to it. The holsters I have for mine are designed to keep the safety in the "on" position.

Does it block the trigger and the striker? Just curious

I don't know if it blocks the striker.

It blocks the trigger from actuating the sear and the striker safety plunger.

Just checked my M&P thumb safety. When the safety is on, a little tab pops up in the pathway of the trigger bar. This stops the rearward motion of the trigger bar thus preventing it from releasing the sear.

I am beginning to wonder if .40 cal pistols in general and M&Ps in particularly will be the K frames of the 90s. The police turn ins that you could find in solid shape between 250-300 all day long. I know I regret buying and selling a Model 64 from that era. I know I regret not buying a second Model 19 for 250 ish IIRC right before I went to Thunder Ranch Revolver in 2004.

I am too far down the rabbit hole with Glock to turn back.

Having said that, If I was starting today and when I reccomend today, I ask folks to think about the M&P platform as well.

I have posted this here before and stand by it-if I lived in a state that had a 10 rd max with no “grandfathering”, I would be looking very hard at a brace of M&P in 45 with frame mounted safeties and some Apex trigger goodness. Even adding RDS and I will still be out less than a Dan Wesson to back up my Kimber Series 1.

I you are a retired or retiring LEO and have .40 around, it seems like an easy call to pick up a purpose designed .40 cal pistol for under 300 in hand.

YMMV

You see many brands of .40 or 45 as trades from LE agencies. The trend is towards 9mm for economic reasons as well as more shootability. I've only shot M&P 45s and they have been reliable. Read reviews from purchasers to gain insight as to condition of the firearm they received.

This seems like a good deal on the 40, which if I recall never had the accuracy issues of the 9s.

The M&P45 is the best shooting and best form factor for a 10-13rd 45acp polymer handgun in my opinion. Accurate, reliable while being much closer in size to the 9/40 cal platforms.

I wish they would’ve made an M&P 1.5 with the 1.0 beavertail and the 2.0 grip texture.

how does the mp safety work? I am a little weary of carring a fully tensioned striker appednix.

It fully prevents rearward travel of the trigger which completely prevents the striker block safety from disengaging. Even if the striker leg happened to break off while fully tensioned or if the sear somehow slipped off, the upper half of the firing pin is held in place by the striker block safety which would prevent the striker from going forward and hitting the primer.
