Week 49: F-PAR Low% Pair
results may be posted until 11:59pm EST on Monday 22 October 2012.

by Todd Louis Green
Range: 7yd
Target: 3x5 card
Start position: holstered
Rounds fired: 40

You will need a shot timer for this drill and you will need to know how to operate the PAR function.

This is another Floating PAR (http://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?5396-Week-45-F-PAR-High-Draw).

Begin with a PAR time that you can confidently draw and hit the target twice from the holster.

Draw and fire two rounds at the target. If you score both hits, reduce the PAR time by 0.1 seconds. If miss one, increase the PAR by 0.1 seconds; if you miss both shots, increase the PAR by 0.2 seconds. Do not make incremental changes greater than this even if your times are much farther from the PAR.

Draw and fire two again with the new PAR. Repeat the process (subtracting 0.1 seconds for 100% hits or adding 0.1 seconds per miss) until you've performed a total of 20 2-shot draws.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

Start position (open holster, concealed, retention holster)
Starting PAR
Lowest PAR with a hit
Final PAR (20th draw)

(if you cannot draw from a holster as a result of some pansy rule by an insipid range, you may participate by shooting the drill from the ready position instead)

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

SACS/WTS 9mm 1911 in JM Custom aiwb

Start: 2.0s
Best: 1.5s
Last: 1.5s (one miss)

All shooting done on a turning target system so no raw times. Obviously 1.5 isn't something I can do on demand but it makes for a solid goal.

Gen 3 G-17, Comp-Tac holster, 5.11 vest

Start par: 2.90 (2.59s both hits)
Lowest par with both hits: 2.2 (2.02s)
Final par: 2.3 (2.10s 1m)

I don't hate the 3x5s as much as I used to. :)

I had 8 misses total but they were all still on the head of the IDPA target.

Gen3 G34 concealed in a Keeper under a t-shirt.

I shot this twice, trying it two ways.

First, I tried to shoot it thoroughly in control, only mildly pushing and getting a high percentage of hits and keeping the final PAR down.

Starting PAR: 2.0
Lowest PAR with both hits: 1.6
Final PAR: 1.6
Best pair with two hits: 1.53

Spent most of the drill bouncing the PAR between 1.6 and 1.7

Later, I ran it again, pushing pretty hard, despite the likelihood that the PAR might end up higher than where it started.

Starting PAR: 1.4
Lowest PAR with both hits: 1.4
Final PAR: 1.8
Best pair with two hits: 1.21

Starting Par: 3.2
Lowest par with hit: 3.2
Final par: 3.2

No, it wasn't 3.2 for the entire drill, I just had a string of late shots at the start that took my par up to 3.5 and I had to work my way back down. Just had a bad day that day.
