I'm working on an article for my website and would love to get some data from the PF shoot-hive.

The drill is simple and can use a Q-PT target, the downloadable 8.5x14 F.A.S.T. target (http://pistol-training.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/fast-target.pdf), or an IDPA target's -0 zone with a 3x5 card stapled to the head.

Draw and fire three to the 8" circle followed by two to the 3x5 card. Distance is seven yards.

If you get a chance, shoot the drill and determine two results:

Your best single run (all hits).
A PAR time that allows you to guarantee 100% hits for five runs in a row.

Thanks in advance!

Todd,
Any particular distance for comparison sake?

Seven yards. Thanks for the reminder! I'll change the original post.

3.32 fastest, 4.30 guaranteed. P30 LEM/Kolbeson AIWB concealed/PMC ammo. I used 5.5 inch B16/2 bull's eye target instead of 8 inch since it is what I have. The first shot times weren't affected much, but the follow ups on 2nd and 3d shot would've been a bit faster had I used the right setup.

Concealment or no?

Concealment preferred but as long as someone shoots it the same way for each run, it doesn't really matter that much to me.

HK P30V3 Heinie S8Q

AIWB under Hoodie

Had to use the par setting since I was getting a wicked echo

<2.3sec. clean
<3sec. 5 in a row clean

Need to re-shoot and hopefully avoid the echo after adjusting sensitivity.

That is going to be on the smokin end of the scale. Nice shooting. I had a new shooter join me this AM and I was pretty consumed with working the basics with him but got in just two runs before he arrived. A break-in 4.10 that missed a head and then a 3.35 clean. Even just two runs was plenty to know 2.3 PR and 3.0 5 in a row clean is pretty hot stuff. Nice!

I ran this on an an IPSC target. (Yes, I had to be different:cool:) I used the upper A-zone (~6x7 inches) for the body and the "credit card" for the head.

1911 w/230 grain HST from a Blade-tech OWB holster under an untucked button-down shirt.

Best Run: 3.07 (1.56, .24, .23, .48, .56).
PAR: 3.5

PF target, P30 LEM, Fricke Gideon OWB, Filson vest. Didn't run that many, but 2.77 best, 3.3 par.

Worked on this a little over the last couple of days.

I used an IDPA target with 3x5 in the head, and shot my usual gear – Gen3 G34 concealed in a Keeper under a t-shirt.

The first day I just tried to shoot it consistently clean. I came up with times ranging from 2.41 to 2.85 to shoot it clean five times consecutively. So, PAR should be 2.9 I guess.

The second day I pushed it as hard as I could. Best clean run was 1.70 (.91, .21, .18, .20, .20.) At speeds of 1.65 to 1.75, which is pretty much max speed for me right now, most of the misses were actually on the body shots. I surprised myself by hitting with most of the 3x5 shots, even with .2-ish splits. Just missed a clean run at 1.65 with missed body shots, but had the two 3x5 shots centered in the 3x5 and touching. Doh!

Also ran a nice 2.13 with 124 gr. Gold Dot – definitely stiffer than 124 gr. Blazer.

So,
1: 1.70 best
2: 2.90 PAR

Once I started pushing, I too was amazed at the 3X5 splits.
I rarely missed the head shots, but sent a few of the body shots into orbit.

Maybe this is from a less than perfect initial grip.

Your 3x5 splits were rockin'. I figured the greater number of misses on the body shots vs. the 3x5 shots was just a product of being less mentally disciplined on the bigger target that seemed like it should be easier. Missing body shots but making 3x5 shots at the same speed just seems dumb and pointless, so it was pretty annoying to me when I did that.

I screwed it up - I ran it with 4 body shots. Those splits were .2-.3, so I guess subtract that from these numbers? :(

Fastest: 4.77
PAR: 5s

I realized I hadn't added my own data...

Shot it last Friday using the turning targets at NRA, so I have PARs instead of actual times.

Best: beat a 2.1 PAR (but not by much, and couldn't beat a 2.0 when I tried next).
Safe: All of my runs were successfully under 2.6 seconds.

H&K P30V2 LEM using a F.A.S.T. target – started from a low ready due to range restrictions. Also, shot this after I was warmed-up - I suspect my performance would be worse if I shot it cold.

Average: 3.98s (average value from running it 6x times, added 1 sec for each miss)
Fastest: 3.03s (Clean, 6th run)
Worst: 3.68s + 2 misses = 5.68s (adjusted time).

Four out of six runs were clean. Need to reshoot it on my next range visit to get my "safe" number ...

Just to be clear, the "safe" number is the speed at which you can shoot it clean five times in a row, not an average of clean and unclean runs.

Best run = 2.57 sec
Guaranteed = 3.5 sec; probably could do a 3.1 sec as well, but had one hit just over the line on that series...

OK, did it the right way this time. My apologies for the confusion in my earlier post - still a newbie in many ways...

H&K P30v2 LEM - shooting at a Pistol-Training target, starting from a low ready.

PAR ("safe") time 4.0 secs
Best time from this session: 3.56s (clean)

Thanks, guys. As I said, the data you collected was to help me with an article on my site, which has now been posted: Personal Best vs. On Demand (http://pistol-training.com/archives/7327).

I appreciate all of you taking the time to run the drill and report your results.

Oh man.

I thought I could at least get this one in under the wire!

I don't get it. Was there suppose to be a card in the head of your target? I can see the faint outline of the -0 area but not the 3x5 card the head. Maybe I'm reading this drill wrong?

No, you were reading it correctly.

As I had already missed the deadline to enter, I just added this "Mozambique" video for effect that I had shot earlier in the season.

Ah ok, I see. Makes sense now.
