Wow, a 10mm that took me by surprise! Have you guys run any heavy field ammo through it? Would love to try one.

Tons of heavy Buffalo Bore etc. My hand was not happy after tens of thousands of rounds of validation with full house loads.

But it's quite pleasant with standard target ammo as well as all standard defensive stuff. It's the full house hunting loads that were a mite... snappy after 5,000 LOL.

Thats fantastic, I wish we could have that much fun with copy.

The Achilles heel of semi auto pistols used in the field in 10mm, has always been their difficulty in reliably feeding wide meplat, heavy cartridges. If this one does it, you will probably sell a bunch of these. Now tell me that you have a compact compensator that you know of , that will go right on one of these!

Years ago, I had a FN striker .40, and I recall that pistol feeding wide meplat .40 hard cast loads.

Nice. I would love to have seen the creative brief for that one.

And if you ever decide you can--or want to--have that much fun with copy... I'm a copywriter/creative director for a brand agency and I love Berettas :)

Very cool! Anything you can tell us about what design features make the gun cycle reliably with heavy 10mm?

My experiments with the Glock20 suggest that mag spring stiffness is more important than bullet shape in heavy 10mm reliability.

This thread is a bit of a long read, but documents my journey to make a Glock 20 work with heavy 10mm.

Didn't have an issue that I experienced.

As far as a comp, anything is possible. I'll point out that we launched a threaded 10MM ;)

As this wasn't my product directly, I don't have any specific knowledge on the design path. I did help with Quals around my other product management duties and found it to be an eminently reliable and fun pistol to shoot.

It's starting to feel like I'm the only person in the world who despises the look of threaded extended barrels.

To avoid being a complete stick in the mud, 22 round capacity for 10mm is pretty bonkers.

If it turns out, there is a compact sized compensator available, that goes on that threaded barrel, you might feel differently about it!

Right there with ya, bro. But I realize looks are subjective—and are ultimately kinda pointless. I suppose if I wanted to run a suppressor, I wouldn’t care either way.

No one has mentioned that the 45 version holds 15 rounds flush and 18 with extended mag!?! Can it withstand 45 Super pressures? Asking for a friend…

Nope. YMMV. Not recommended or supported by FN.

I didn't spot a note in the 509 manual about having the gun examined by the mothership or an armorer every year or 2,000 rounds. That statement was in earlier manuals. (I could have missed it.) Is that no longer a "thing" for FN?

I ask because I'm curious about replacement schedules for springs and general service intervals for a 10. And on a completely-related note, it seems that the target audience for the 510 will want spring options. That doesn't feel very "FN" though. Any insights you can share?

I waited for the Grand Power 10 to come back in stock, and when it did, the price had jumped in the few places I looked. The 510 is moderately interesting to me.

545 is available for sale now on Grabagun. Not an endorsement of that vendor, just FYSA

I saw a few of the 510 on GB, waiting for my LGS to get one in.

Yeah, 15 is pretty impressive. Especially if they're .45 Supers...

Not that I really need anything more "super" than .45 ACP.

Wait, I'm confused on the capacity. So both the 45 and 10 have 15 rounds in the non extended mags, but the 10mm has 22 rounds in the extended for it versus the 45s 18?

Are the base mag lengths different? Or are the extendeds? How are you fitting 4 more rounds in one mag versus the other, but not the same with the non extended?

Trukinjp13

Base mags should most likely be 13 rounds for the 45.

That's not what the FN web page is saying.

My LGS got four of these in yesterday, 2 Black & 2 FDE.

Seems decent. Has a metal hinged trigger. Not sure why they went away from the blade type trigger. In short I normally hate hinged triggers but this one is not bad and feels like a one piece trigger, at least in dry fire.

If you look at the pics both mags are extended beyond the grip. I was told once a non tactical is released without threaded barrel and the extended mags it would be 13 rounds standard. So my thought process was the base mag would be 13. Sorry I did not clarify on why I said that.

I’m hoping for similar options to the 509 line. I guess I’m one of the randoms who really like them and have had zero problems

I scored my Gen 5 MOS G19 this morning at my happy place. I took my trigger scale along and my new 19 read 6 lbs over and over. Just fine.

Then browsing saw a FDE 510 and handled it. Very nice pistol. Trigger had a nice amount (to me) of travel to a rolling break with no stack I perceived. My qualitative sense was it was a good bit lighter than my just dry fired G19. I'd have guessed 5 lbs max, maybe just under. Repeatedly with my scale I got 6 lbs, 6 lbs, 6 lbs. I was sort of shocked. I'd rate it a very nice trigger.
