Hi,

Anyone have a recommendation for sporting clays (Trap, Skeet etc) instruction in the Charlotte NC area? Also any recommendations on where to shoot, web sites and forums covering the sport.

Will Fennell is, IIRC, based out of the Rock Hill area. Not sure what his schedule is like.

$125 an hour. Yikes! Puts the $400-$500 for 2 days with Todd or LAV in perspective.

I gotta find cheaper hobbies.

Buddy of mine who shoots clays went to this guy.

I went to Dan Schindler at Riverbend sportsmanship resort in Inman. Worth every penny.

The one time I did sporting clays, the instructor told me that I was "a natural" I hit 95% of all the targets. He was just amazed.

I owe my success on that day to the fact I had private classes the weekend before with Pete Kautz on his instinctive rifle training approach. This was my first time shooting any gun, (infact we started the day with some shotgun handling and dry fire before we moved on to the shooting part of the class) He uses a daisy air rifle (you don't really shoot your eye out) and has you shoot at cans of varying sizes (start big with coffee can and move down to a tomato paste / mushroom can) you throw the can in the air and do arial hits just like in the sporting clay range, but you can do this in your back yard for pennies. I am convinced that this works for sporting clay training, but I never perused it further. It is fun though and I occasionally break out my air rifles and bag-o-cans for practice.

American Instinctive Rifle shooting based on the US Army 'quick kill' program:

There are several articles you can read here on "instinctive shooting"

Nyc, Quick Kill was a brain child of a guy named Lucky McDaniel. Very interesting concept.
