Hey guys, just joined up and love most of the discussions on this forum, finally joined! Some great nuggets of info on here and happy to be on board. Anyways I have been reading up on reviews of the Taurus 800 series pistols for the last year or so....particularly the PT 809 9mm. It really drew my attention from the appearance down to the AMAZING trigger and overall performance.

So I finally broke down last month and spent the hard-earned $375 on the full sized 4" barrel 809 model to really put it to the test and see for myself if Taurus has what it takes to be competitive in the semi-auto market. So far this gun has been INCREDIBLE!

Pros to this gun, in my opinion:
• High capacity (17+1)
• Nice stainless finish & overall look/appearance
• Light, Well balanced and great ergonomics (nice finger grooves in grip and allows for high choke on the grip under the beaver tail)
• Virtually zero kick/recoil
• Ate 500 rounds of Fiocchi 115gr FMJ ammo without a SINGLE hiccup
• One of the most amazing triggers I ever squeezed (short SA travel pull....crisp break....and VERY short reset)
• Ambi features including de-cocker and external safety
• Nice standard 3-dot Novak sights. Nice sight picture

Cons:
• Stiff mag release button (loosened up after 300 rounds)
• LOADED with thick factory goo....easy to fix...jst clean it good!
• Mags all have extension base plate which makes this huge grip even bigger
• Thats it!

I just made my first youtube video on this gun last week and excited to see how it holds up once I hit the 5k round mark. Extremely pleased so far....way to go on this model Taurus! Anyone else have experience using this pistol and want to share?

What kind of accuracy are you seeing from it at 25 yards?

Orion, I have yet to shoot beyond 20 yards but I can say with confidence as a novice level shooter (6 years) that I am hitting within 6" groups from about 18 yards. For me thats spot on....perfect accuracy out of the box. I am still perfecting trigger/grip control and focus. I only recently learned last year all the wrong things I was doing while shooting handguns!

You don't have an M&P 9mm yet, do you?

No why? I almost considered one before I bought my Glock26 for cc

In the interest of not creating a pile on, I will let my thoughts regarding Taurus stay in the other thread. I'm glad you're happy with your pistol.

I understand...lol I am nto a fragile guy who has placed my ego into this gun. Feel free to discuss but I think we both made our points in the other thread. Again purely a backup gun/target pistol...but 100% accurate and has kicked ass on 500 rounds out of the box so far. I am gonna work this gun like crazy!

I would just mention that I do not think you can judge the reliability of this firearm based on 500 rounds. For many here, that much goes through their pistol before noon on a saturday.

I would also remark that For 375 dollars you are geting pretty close to the price of a used Glock 17....

otherwise I am glad you enjoy your pistol. I do encourage you to take note of the sorts of qualities judged to be important in a handgun that are emphasized here - reliability, durability, mechanical accuracy, aftermarket support.... I also highly recommend you take a look at the guns in the 2,000 round challenge thread at the top of this forum.

Cheers

I too have been reading about the Taurus pt-809 and also bought one last week, I absolutely LOVE IT . I have only shot about 75 rds through it, but it performed perfectly and was so comfortable to hold and shoot, after shooting I cleaned it and could not beleive how easy it is to disasemble and reasemble, for a pistol of this magnatude for the low price of $349.00 is just unreal .
