I have two Sig P226's that I may carry for patrol duty. One is 9mm the other .40. The above two rounds are what the department issues. Between these two specific rounds which would you pick and why?

The one you can shoot better.

I would take the 9mm because the platform is more reliable with the 9mm cartridge and it has less recoil. Both rounds are acceptable duty loads.

9mm.

Less recoil, training ammo is less expensive (if you have to provide it for yourself at any point in the future), and the performance gap between most modern 9x19 defense loads vs .40 is almost nil.

I'd have no qualms carrying the +P HST 124 g load.

That's easy, the 9 mm.

9mm hands down, 40 is not worth the recoil IMO.

9mm all the way. You get 4 more of those little things.

I would echo everyone else's support for the 9mm. Principally due to cost, and because .40 is not going to do THAT much more for you as to justify the extra expense.

Recently got 1,000 rounds of HST 124+P, and seems like one cartridge in each box of 50 is turned opposite -- bullet up. That normal?

Who'd you get it from?

After seeing several million rounds of HST opened up over the past few years, I can honestly say I have not seen that...

Sealed 1000 round case from M.A.H. Supplies. Have bought ammo from him for years.

I got three cases of it a while back and I'm down to about 500rd left. While it's possible, I don't recall seeing that even once. It's certainly not commonplace.

OTOH, it's not something I'd be particularly worried about. If the rounds otherwise look good, chamber check properly, and are reliable & accurate you should be perfectly fine.

That was my feeling, but not that I am superstitious, I inspected the round carefully, and then put it near the bottom of my carry magazine (spare not the one in the pistol).

Speaking of which, I just found an upside down round in another box of the same case. I shook the boxes like crazy to see if that could cause a round to flip, and it wouldn't for me.

You're right, the ammo is no good.

You should send it to me for proper disposal.:cool::cool:

(joking of course)

So is there some problems with the P226 in 40cal ?
I know there P229 40cal is reliable.

OP

For ccw I would take the P226 in 9mm
(little less recoil faster on target)

Its to bad you cant change loads to the standard pressure 9mm 124 or 147 HTS

If I was in LE I might look into the 40cal but with loads in 180gr

The 124 +P is actually a very good load.
