Just a few weeks after.a U.S. CBP Instructor was killed in Miami when a live weapon was introduced into what was supposed to be a sterile training environment it’s happened again in Texas (DFW area).

Thankfully the Officer is still alive. I don’t know who the “third party training provider” was.

Sansom Park officer shot during active shooter training at elementary school, police say

FOREST HILL, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) — A Sansom Park police officer is in critical condition after reportedly getting shot during an active shooter training session at an elementary school Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 2:12 p.m. Nov. 5, Forest Hill police received a call that an officer was down during a "training accident," Everman Police Chief Craig Spencer said.

The officer was reportedly shot with a live round and then taken by ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital where she is in critical but stable condition. Her identity has not been released at this time.

The session was put on by a third party training provider at David K Sellars Elementary in Forest Hill, Spencer said. Several other agencies, including the Sansom Park Police Department, also participated in the training.

Spencer said the third party provider supplied the equipment used and that there was no plan for there to be any live fire training.

The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office along with the Texas Rangers are currently investigating the incident.

Forest Hill Mayor Stephanie Boardingham has since asked the community to send prayers and condolences to the family of the officer.

"We would just like to send our prayers and condolences to the family of the officer that was shot. Also, we ask for the same for our officers here in Forest Hill, as well as all officers that were attending this training," Boardingham said. "Please help us to pray for the officers, and for everyone who is conducting the investigation so that we can all get through this."

Texas Police Trainers LLC ?

Interesting -.I thought they only did classroom training. If they were offering Active Shooter they seem to have scrubbed it from their website…they have a training calendar with training provided by others.

WFAA is reporting the training was being run by a reserve constable.

A source shared a flyer with WFAA, where it says the hosting agency for the training was the Forest Hill Police Department, instructed by Paul Gaumond.

The flyer stated Gaumond is a reserve chief deputy constable for Johnson County Constable Precinct 2.

According to the flyer, the training was open to peace officers, school resource officers and campus security officers.

“This was a training that was open to any police department that wanted to attend,” said Manoushagian.

WFAA is indicating the officer was shot in the face and is in ICU.

The WFAA story has a go fund me link for contributions to the officer’s medical expenses.

Some background on Mr Gaummond from the minutes of a Texas Private Security Board meeting:

Agenda Item VIII: Discussion regarding ASSIST school/training proposal (Paul Gaumond with North Central Investigation Service)
Chairman Chism took this item out of order on the Agenda. Mr. Gaumond was directed to the podium to address this issue. Mr. Gaumond stated that although he is with North Central Investigation Service, he was not representing them on this matter, but rather was there to discuss this issue with the Board on his own. He stated that he had twenty years experience in law enforcement, twelve years experience in the Private Security sector, served as Chief of Police in a few cities in Texas and currently serves as Chief Deputy Constable in Johnson County, as well as having done work for the Department of Homeland Security as a Transportation Security Specialist. He went on to say that he holds an advanced peace officer license, a TCLEOSE instructor license as well as a level III, level IV, and continuing education instructors‟ licenses with the Private Security Bureau.

Looks like he was fired for cause by the city of Melissa TX in the 1990s resulting in a lawsuit.

Another lawsuit vs the City of Dallas pending:

And fired from a reserve position with the city of Cockrell TX

It appears Gaumond may be what is known as a “Gypsy Cop” - one who goes from department to department after being fired or resigning in lieu of being fired but never messing up badly enough to lose their State Peace Officer License.

Looking at the flyer there appears to be pictures with red dummy guns on page 2, but the rest on page 1 appear to show training with live weapons. There is zero reason to do this. If there were a reason then weapons should have their action taped shut with colored tape after being checked /verified clear by an instructor/ safety officer.
