View Full Version : Retiring With 46

Well Gentlemen and Ladies tomorrow will be my last day in a Patrol Vehicle. 46 years wearing a Badge and it's time to move on.

It's been quite a ride. Sometimes bumpier than others I'm afraid. (Serious Cruiser Accident. OIS. 2 Time Membership in the Second Chance Survivors Club) you get the idea...

This job becomes who you are, not what you happen to do. And while I look forward to the next chapter, it's kind of surreal just the same.

Technically I'm in the Retire/Rehire Program as I will be a Guardian Officer in the local County School District. Protecting K-5th Grade Children and Teachers. Nice change from 46 years of Patrol, Firearms Instructor, Etc.

Hopefully my skills are never needed and the highlight of my day is giving Hi Fives to 8 year olds.

And I couldn't have done it without Mrs. MDFA. She's A Keeper;)

For all of you still in a beat car etc. Be Careful Out There. And Thank You For Your Service.

Outstanding run! Congratulations and welcome to the club.

Retiring was the best thing I ever did career-wise. I went on to a better full time job and I’m just giddy about it.

Wishing you nothing but the best in your future endeavors.

Congrats on making it!
I went to an SRO position upon retirement in a small K-6 school and it was incredibly rewarding. I introduced thumb wrestling to third graders, got hugged daily by Kindergarteners, saw 1st graders have tragic days of just being overwhelmed by school, and watched 6th graders start to notice the opposite sex. It was all hilarious fun.

Dang, man. I thought 30.5 years was too long! Knew a few guys who had done 45-46 years. One was a Sex Crimes Investigator, the other was my Captain when he retired. Both were legends in the Department. They represented living history.

Welcome to Chapter 2.

Wow! You must be an outstanding specimen mentally and physically to have spent 46 years in law enforcement and resist burnout and job fatigue. Congratulations and thank you. Please feel good about accomplishments and contributions. You have earned the right to strut when you walk and brag too. We have many fine professionals on our forum. You guys help make it a great place.

You are an IronMan! 46 years?!?!?!? Hats off mister for sure!

This retirement gig it pretty good, I will say it is good you have some intermediate employment to make the
transition to "not working" easier. Stay busy and stay healthy.

Best

Your period of service is so long that my dad who served 21 years and my brother who has served 11 years would still need another 14 years just to tie you, combined.

I am well aware - or at least as aware as a family member can be - of what they've been through in a combined 32 years. 46 years must dwarf even that.

Congratulations and my sincere thanks for what you spent your life doing. Lord knows you didn't hear that enough.

Ladies and Gentlemen.

I'm Humbled and Honored by your responses. Especially considering that as far as I know we have never met.

Thank you all.

Stay Safe.
