View Full Version : Glock mini humpectomy video

If people are interested, I can video my next humpectomies and do a tutorial with commentary.

Note for the cynics, I view this as a comfort mod like stippling or relieving trigger guard edge. It’s not necessary, but it’s so easy to do and makes index similar to revolvers and CZs that I opt for it.

As always, hit like so I know if people care or don’t. That’ll dictate how much time and effort I put into the video.

This is the difference between the 19x (after mini humpectomy) and the Gen 2.

I am interested, from an academic standpoint. I have no perceived need to do this, myself, to my personal-use pistols*, so there is no need to go into exhaustive detail, on my account.

*A Gen4/Gen5 G17 is about as good as it gets, to be an “orthopedic” pistol, for my aging hands; close enough to perfect, for me.

I like the idea of "fixing" the Glock index but I also prefer a magwell for the extra support it gives my pinky. This mod would kill the magwell so while I'm very interested in seeing the process I will probably never do it myself.

That is interesting and one of the best photos I have seen of the hump. Which I do not notice at all usually.

I actually flared the bottom of the grip to make it an integrated magwell…

I would love to see your process in as much detail as you can bear to include. The 19X feels very good to me, but the 19 does not, nor the 26. I did one 26 backstop where I heated the hump with a heat gun and pressed it down to flatten the hump. As I recall, the end result was not horrible visually, but it got covered with grip tape anyway.

Yes please…

Yeah, do it.

I like the heat gun idea. Have one, have used it modifying holsters...

I did a hump reduction on a 3rd gen G23 frame, heated with a candle, pushed it in, sanded whole back strap, then stipled with soldering iron (to match the front I'd already done).

Worked like a charm, love the way the gun feels in hand now. Part of my hybrid G19 build that I carry now.

I took video but not sure how well it came out. Will try and put it together when I get a chance.

Can sand or stipple at this point.

I overlay backstrap so I don’t bother.

Compared to a Gen 4 in back. Subtle flattening.

You can cut larger gaps and fold more inwards if you want less hump.

I view it as a comfort modification like stippling or undercut.

It’s not going to meaningfully change the ability of someone to shoot well or poorly.

It’s just a subtle index change that only matters for someone going at full speed on a small target without time to correct mechanics.

It’s not worth it for most people, but for me it only took the time for my daughter to take a bath and I like working with my hands.

It’s worth it for me to get index more similar to my revolvers and other guns. But it only comes into play at 0.7s type draws to small targets.

Nice work. I could never do that.

Very cool. It is amazing what a huge difference can be made by just a small amount of change in girth/feel of the grip.

I'll mic them when I get home (actually carrying the hybrid G19 and a gen4 G19 at the moment), but the difference is very slight, but feels great.

I see you're using a back strap regardless, makes sense. With mine (3rd gen) I had no choice but to sand down and stiple, due to the heat deformation. Worked out though, grip texture is now much more solid.

I don’t mind stippling at all, for these I thought I would do a little stealth mod.

My G26 I did a similar humpectomy and then blended the bottom of a P320 down. Had to stipple that and love it.

Excellent! That little hump removal might just make the grip angle more natural for me.

Yeah I remember your G26 hybrid, cool stuff!

So got home, measured front to back of the grips, narrowest part of base where hump is:

Gen3 G19: 2.22"
Gen4 G19: 2.14"
Modified Gen3 G19 hybrid: 2.10"

Ridiculously small differences, but hugely different feel. Doesn't take much.

I wasn’t quite satisfied with the amount of hump still left so I heat gunned it in place and flattened part of the back.

Much better

Compared to stock hump.

Well, I didn’t realize the G17 and the G45 frames are different….

The rails are in different places so the G19 slide doesn’t fully travel on the G17 frame…

I ordered a Gen 5 Glock 34 barrel to use with my G34.4 slide.
