Was asked to fix a LB Harball 1911 that cracked its frame.

As we are in a slow patch in the shop, this recieved more attention that it really should have. The filler rod has some stabilizers in it to help with carbide formation, which we assume is the cause of failure. That really is a total WAG, but it gave us a starting point and something to argue over.

Here's hoping it works as planned!

We shot 50cal rounds at hybrid metal-ceramic composite carbon nanotube filled armor last week. For a whole day.

That's just mean of you to post something like that!

(j/k, taking applications?)

I'm not far from Dayton. Maybe you need a janitor?

Heck! I'll WEAR the armor you're shooting at and make the coffee every ten minutes.

"Eating the elephant" - I cringe and belly laugh every time I read that.

Trust me, it's not all fun and bustin' caps at work. Gov't reports are singularly sucky to write.

Surprised no one mentioned the botched job on the inside of the DC channel, where the weld got messed up on the inside.

Stupid mistake.

TIG weld? How did you keep everything squared up on the frame?

YAG laser.

Squared up?

YAG laser.

Squared up?

No dimensional differences in the frame alignments what could affect internal parts fit or slide function.

gotcha. Was just a hairline fracture. The fracture was grooved out using a die grinder, then welded up in the vice (to hold it together). I'm guessing it will be fine.

If I was in Ohio I'd offer to write those reports to get to work there ;p
