Navy drone ships.

About time. Armed drone ships. Could be a game changer.

Just think about that. Totally cost effective. Fewer military retirement pensions and VA claims. We lost a drone ship today but we have some more on the way.

Is this 21st century or am I living in a dream?

...meanwhile...6000nm away, there’s some dude in Norfolk with a game controller, a bag of Cheetos, and a Mountain Dew.

I really hope these work out and keep getting better. The more we can do w/o risking American lives the better.

They've been around for a while. The Iranians tried to steal one.

Here's a different point of view: https://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedings/2022/october/bring-back-pt-missile-boats

The author says the Navy is all about cutting needed ships for unproven technology that may or may not work. Their technical advances have been flops - the Ford, the LCS, Zumwalt. They would be better off with more conventional tech in sufficient numbers to do the job.

They are trying to see now if they can reload the VLS at sea as someone realized that once a ship is empty and has to sail thousands of miles to reload - well, that's not so great.

The one the Iranians highjacked was probably unarmed just like the Global hawk they shot down in 2019.

I suspect that the Navy has plans to arm those surface drones.

No damage-control capability, they'd better be cheap and numerous.

I wonder how those will function in a hard EW environment.
