It's going to be a long ride folks. I regrettably think this is going to seen a lot more considering the current events OCONUS.

Welcome to the New Normal.

Consumes valuable time, money and resources, useful for creating distractions, creates immediate panic and longer-term instability.
Excellent PsyOps, all for the cost of a phone call.

Tip of the iceberg, I'll bet.

Hopefully just a hoax.

Beat me to it.
We had 2 bomb threats this week in SA, one at the airport and one at a hotel, luckily both were fake. Lots of weird stuff going on lately, but I'm sure everything will calm down as the election gets closer ;)

I'm a Longhorn, and I grew up in Austin. My family is all still there, though thankfully not near campus.

Extremely unsettling, to say the least.

Good family friend is there now. If I can get any info I'll post it.

The UT site has switched over to their emergency homepage, and students/staff received texts around 9:50. Apparently the call came much earlier, though, so I suspect this is psyops/a hoax.

I hope it's a hoax as well. We did it to the Russians during the Cold war. Outspent them into oblivion. Who to say it's a US only tactic?

The time period in the threat expired, and nothing has happened. Apparently the caller identified himself as being with Al Qaeda, which I would find unlikely if this actually was a real threat.

Just had another one this morning in SA, so three this week. Either the stupid is contagious or one particular individual is going to get his door kicked soon.

The University is still under emergency conditions. Please remain away from buildings. As additional information becomes available it will be updated on this site.

It was pretty evident as a hoax from the word Go. Happens quite a bit, actually.

...and the poster who mentioned that AQ doesn't make a habit of phoning us up and warning that they're going to blow a bunch of people to kingdom come in advance is right. Claiming AQ makes for snazzier press coverage, though, especially with all the nonsense happening around the globe right now.

What will happen now is an expensive, time consuming sweep of the campus where they look for bombs they pretty much know aren't going to be there, and then they'll find the idiot who made the call (rarely do these people actually do a decent job of covering their tracks) and they'll charge that person out the wazoo for causing all the panic.

It's progress, though. We've gone from erring on the side of keeping university operations going (Virginia Tech) to erring on the side of the personal safety of people who are at risk.

Government estimates between 7 and 20 million illegals here in the US.
Only 60% from Mexico. SOURCE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_immigration_to_the_United_States)

How many of those are already here, specifically to do us harm?
<that was rhetorical>

Someone REAALLY wasn't ready for their midterms were they?

Looks like Texas A&M is being evacuated for a bomb threat. Texas State had one yesterday but only had to clear out a few buildings.
