What grips are you all using for J frame front pocket carry? Do you like a grip that offers maximum concealment or something a little more substantial?

My 642 has C/T laser grips (way too big IMHO) and my 638 has the stock "rubber" grips (seems like a good compromise)

Hogue Bantam (Piranha) in G10 (https://www.amazon.com/Hogue-61139-Frame-Bantam-Piranha/dp/B007PVBH0E). Grippy, without being overly aggressive against bare skin...and easy to retrieve from pocket.

My OEM rubber grips delaminated after a few years...with the rubber separating from the grip.

Oh but never mind the bad ass custom knife in the pic Blues. Lol. Always got the nice blades.

I use the old Uncle Mike's hard rubber boot grip copies for pocketed J frames. I found 4 or 5 sets over the years in various bargain boxes at the LGS or on tables at gun shows. They don't snag or abrade pockets.

The older Taurus design is very good. Adds length of pull yet is still a boot style grip overall. Wish someone offered it in non rubber.

The three concerns I have with pocket-carry grips are: weight, shape, and shootability. Weight and shape are all about keeping the gun balanced in the pocket and less likely to print prominently in summer-weight, light-colored slacks. Shootability is all about having a repeatable grip with “enough” surface area.

Ran the Uncle Mikes Boots for a while and have settled back on the Hogue Bantams. Pocket gun is a 340PD, and I’m pretty sure these are the lightest grips on the market besides nigh-unusable magnas.

I used to worry about the “stickiness” of the rubber, but if your hand is already in your pocket, then the grips aren’t touching the fabric in the way out.

LG 405's on my 340pd.

A little more cushier than the 105, and smaller than a 305. I guess there is a new one called a 350, too, which is bigger.

My pants are loose cut and my pockets are big.

I have no defense save the fact that I'm not using CT grips like his. ;)

I have wood boot grips on my Model 36, but use stock rubber on my 642’s. I decided to throw a pic of my year long knife edc. It’s a Benchmade 940 with CF grips and S90V steel. Don’t even bother with that steel, unless you have diamond sharpening plates.

And I just had another one of those "duh!" moments.

Thanks for the reality check.

I ordered some cloth masking tape off Amazon.
Not sticky or slick, feels dry/neutral. Wrapped around the Taurus grip I'm hoping it'll do the trick.
Plus, it'll be handy for Mafia hits.

Tried it out today and found it serviceable.
On my 342, I did a variation of Lost River's idea, using the tape to secure a piece of old belt to the open backstrap of some boot style G10 drips.
The tape allows me to reach smoothly into the pocket, unlike my various rubber based grips.
Whoever created that "blood groove" on the 342 backstrap oughtta be tried in Nuremberg.

My 442's wear LG405's also. I like them.

Just ordered a set of these..might not be exactly pocket perfect, but that might have to be rectified.

What grips are those?

These are specifically made for newer j-frame Centennials, (340,342,640,642,and 351) manufactured by Karl Nill or KN Nill-Griffe Part#SW2098 they won't fit early model non J-magnum frames like a model 40-42 from the 1950s-60s.

My 642-1 is currently wearing LG-105 grips. Great for pocket carry, bad for speed loader reloads. Looking for some PGS Hideout grips. I regret selling the sets I had. They also did not play well with speed loaders but they can easily be modified. The CT grips cannot.

Here's the LG350's.

Extra pricey cause it's a green laser. I'm gonna try to find some locally and do a side by side comparo with the stock S&W's on my M&P340. I'm thinking they'll be too big for front pocket carry - at least MY front pockets.

I like the looks of these, something about wood grips on a snub just gives poppa chub.

Will be trying these Altamont g-10 combat grips for pocket carry as they would be less likely to hangup in the pocket vs the Hogue Bantam rubber grips I normally run on my j frames.

Getting a slight length increase but gaining some pinky real estate which always goes a long ways towards taming recoil.

The PGS Hideout Grips remain probably the best 'pocket' grip for J-Frames.

http://www.precisiongunspecialties.com/

I might try the VZ 'Boot' grip variant they have now. While I don't mind the finger groove on the Spegel-style grips, it forces my hand lower on the gun. The PGS grips offer a nice high and repeatable grip. I just wish they had some more texture to them (I roughed mine up with 80-grit sand paper to help).

I'm probably just a wimp, but I wish there were more grips like the taurus boot grips but for the J frame.

Ordered these from Nill, impeccable fit and finish. I have to say Im amazed how tight these fit to the frame, its like they were hand fit. So far pocket carry is nice. Haven't put any rounds down range yet but it won't be long.
