Week 43: 3by3
results may be posted until 11:59pm EDT on Monday 10 Ocotober 2012.

by Todd Louis Green
Range: 5 or 7 yards
Target: 8" circle, 3x5 card, and 2" dot

six 2" dots target (http://pistol-training.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/6x2in-circles.pdf)

3x5, 2" dot, and 1" square target (http://pistol-training.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/3-two-1.pdf)
Start position: concealed
Rounds fired: 9

This week's drill is about being able to change mental and visual gears appropriately for a given target. You will need a shot timer.

Draw, three rounds to the 8" circle. (time + 0.3 seconds per miss)
Draw, three rounds to the 3x5 card. (time + 1 second per miss)
Draw, three rounds to the 2" dot. (no time limit, 3 seconds per miss)

If you can reliably hit a 2" dot at 7yd slow fire, use 7yd as your distance.
If you can reliably hit a 2" dot at 5yd slow fire, use 5yd as your distance.
If you cannot reliably hit a 2" dot at 5yd slow fire, use 5yd as your distance but replace the 2" dot with a second 3x5 card (no time limit, 3 seconds per miss).

Please report the following when responding to this thread:

Distance
Start position (concealed, duty rig, open holster, ready)
Times and hits for each string of fire
Total score

If you run the drill more than once, please post your initial run and your best run.

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

Didn't have the exact targets, so I used a B-16 instead, meaning that my small circle was 1.75" and my large one was 5.5".

Cold run
Large circle 1.96/0.38/0.43 clean
3x5 1.95/0.52/0.59 one out
Small circle 2.32/0.83/0.83 no hits

Midway through

Large 1.90/0.39/0.43
3x5 1.84/0.55/0.45
Small 2.77/1.31/1.34.

Total: cold run 9.81 plus 10 penalty seconds, 19.81; warm run 5.56.

Concealed P30 LEM, Kolbeson Texas Comfort holster, polo shirt, 124 gr. Aguila, 7 yards.

I realize the instructions are contradictory, but the idea with the 2" circle is that you don't record your time (like Dot Torture). It's about slowing down and guaranteeing hits.

So the correct score reporting should exclude small circle time as long as it is shot cleanly?

Time for 8" plus accuracy penalty
... plus
Time for 3x5 plus accuracy penalty
... plus
Accuracy penalty for 2"

Well, I'll just have to hit the range again before this DotW is closed out, and do it right this time. :)

7 yards, Gen3 G34 concealed in a Keeper under a t-shirt.

Only shot it once, but I had already been shooting for a while and was plenty warmed up.

8” 1.27 clean, 3x5 2.21 clean, 2” clean = 3.48
