The range became available last minute, so...

KSTG (http://pistol-forum.com/kstg) match
Tuesday 28-August-2012
$25
Estimated Round Count: 50-60
Squads begin at 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, and 9pm. Six people maximum per squad.

Signups begin on Friday 17-Aug. You can call the NRA Range @ 703-267-1402 to reserve a slot at that time. Calling before Friday 17-Aug will not get you a slot and will likely just annoy the folks who let us run our matches.

Please note: the time for the match has changed back to 5pm start and last squad beginning at 9pm.

Awesome, will be there.

Will there be a practice/classifier that Sunday?

Cool. I was wondering when the next one was going to be.

The practice sessions are run by the NRA Range, you should ask them.

Any drills that they run which mirror the classifier are not official runs that count for your KSTG classification.

Question on the rules:

I noticed that the lowest bullet weight in the rule book appendix is 115 gr. Is 115 gr the lowest allowable weight, or can lower weight bullets (95 gr) be used if they have sufficient muzzle velocity? I didn't see it specified in the rules, at least in the draft that I have.

As long as it meets the minimums the ammo is fine.

I won't be able to make my 5pm slot tomorrow :( I'll call the range in the morning to let them know. Hope to catch the next match...

I'll be calling the range to open up a 2100 slot as well. Parental duties call!

Thanks to everyone for putting on a great match. For a brief moment, I had a glimmer of hope that I might beat JV, but alas, it was merely pure fantasy.

Folks - As always, enjoyed the match and looking forward to doing it again soon. Meanwhile I will obsess over my mistakes and the need to get focused rapidly in the moment and out of the other headspaces that get in the way. Shot an earlier squad, which is always good for a cold test right from the stress of the normal workday - but my performance clearly showed the lack there. (Though that is not the only thing source of suck for me today....) But we this is why we do train and test.

I particularly appreciated the pseudo shoot house door and halls setup. Nicely done, and nice touch on the opening style. One of the worst ways to have to go through a door, especially right into hostile targets. Very useful stage in some ways though, given that the setup is very common for interior bedrooms et al. Upon reflection, I was trying to understand why I it felt like I was hesitating too much at the door (even though objectively it was not really much more than a typical quick peek / third eye weapon as far as time count) - and I don't think I would have used what would have been an interior wall as cover as the stage dictated, but rather have gone dynamic and gotten out of the funnel. Though out of the funnel into a corridor problem is admittedly not much better - there is definitely room for further conversation on that one, not least of which because it is a good test for the typical at home scenario.

Appreciate the staff's investment of time and energy to make this happen. Hope we can get the future ones scheduled and locked in.

My first time shooting the KSTG match. It was outstanding. I also liked the fact that it is much more laid back than IDPA where equipment is concerned. I definitely look forward to the next one. Where are the scores for tonight going to be posted? Also, is there a Facebook page for KSTG?

That was a fun match! Thanks, Todd and all for running it for us.

One of these days I'm going to make it all the way through a KSTG match without incurring a penalty.

This match was a good kick-start for restarting my regular practice/training sessions. I think my favorite part of the match is the run-through stage at the end.

Congratulations to joshs !

Sort of. The rule book actually calls the category DA pistol, which is defined as a pistol capable of striking a primer more than once. I was using an LEM. I'm not sure why the scoresheets say DA/SA.

ToddG

No. There have been many, many 1911s at KSTG since the very first match.

Good work, dude. I mean, everyone knows the FAST was designed around the LEM so it's kind of like cheating but still, sorry I missed it. :p

Dude, earning your coin during a sanctioned match should be worth something extra.

Congrats, Josh.

Congrats to Josh and thanks to all the staff for another great match. I was happy to see another final "super stage", and the new door set-up was cool as well.

Out of curiosity, how did the top dogs approach the final stage? Did they shoot the steel moving or stationary, and where did they reload?

ToddG
08-29-2012, 10:04 PM
The last stage required a minimum of 18 rounds. Since most folks started with 11 in the gun and 10 in a spare, ideally you don't need to reload more than once. Remember the reload rule: you cannot reload if exposed to a threat unless you're at slidelock. So you couldn't do an IPSC-style speed reload in the biggest open area unless you'd already knocked down all the steel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLkeXBIkwVY&feature=youtu.be

There may be a lot better ways to approach the stage, of course. As I commented to the RO when I was done, I had absolutely no plan and just shot it as I went.
