I just got an email announcing the new CMMG FourSix. I have no interest, but here's a link for those of you who are.

Definitely interesting since I believe this is the first commercial gun in 4.6x30. Ammo is available which is refreshing but not a lot of options. Be interesting if this cartridge takes off in the commercial market.

That is the single most annoyingly fluffed-up webpage I've ever seen.

CMMG isn't going to be able to produce enough of these to even move the needle.

While I have an irrational want for an MP7-shaped firearm chambered in 9mm, I just can’t see a reason to use 4.6 in an AR15-sized firearm. The Rattler is in that same size range, as are various 9mm SMG/PCC options.

I did a quick search and found no ammo available and the prices for the oos ammo were not cheap. I’m not sure why this even exists in an AR.

It's one of those things that I get in a sort of theoretical sense, but it's so far outside both my rational needs and irrational desires that I also don't grok it.

I guess this is for those who find 5.7x28 too affordable and available?

I think I'm just jaded with everything being an AR 15 pattern design. I love the AR platform and own a bunch, but just give me somthing else man! Literally anything other than an AR would be cool to me at this point.

I think I just found the perfect sugar daddy financial backer for my switch barrel 4.6x30 and 5.7x28 flintlock design…

I've got .17 Mach IV and .204 Ruger barrels for my Contender, so I'm good.

That would indeed be cooler than what we got here.

I was gonna ask what 4.6 fails to do that 5.7 fails to do better.

Agreed.

This is straight up fucking retarded.

Aside from the significant terminal performance disadvantage, does the 4.6 (or 5.7) have any advantages in terms of muzzle blast/signature when operating in confined spaces while retaining the capability of making man sized hits out to 300m?

I get the FN P90, and would love one as a prairie dog zapper. Or the 9mm MP7 as mentioned above.

But an AR in 5.7 or 4.6? Meh. I'd rather have a .22.

If Kel-Tec would riff on the broomhandle Mauser and get something as close to Han Solo's blaster as you could get without running afoul of Disney's lawyers, they'd sell all they could make. At least eight, maybe ten. Call it the DL-46? Money.

I'm only sort of kidding.

If you're hipster enough to want something in 4.6x30 you're too hipster to want it in an AR15.

Someone needs to come out with a pistol in the same config as an Uzi/MP7 with the mag in the grip and some sort of brace. Then calibers like 4.6 and 5.7 might make more sense maybe. Probably not.

Heh. The perfect weapon for countering the gepanzerte sturmsquirreltruppen threat...

I have an irrational desire to see a 4.6 or 5.7 8" upper paired to a KE Arms KP-15 polymer lower with the cut-down "entry" level stock, just to see how much of an actual toy it might be.

On the other hand, I've got a slight-statured friend with a 380EZ that she likes very much. I've wondered about a 9mm RDB gun, and now I wonder about one of these, maybe with an A2 flash hider and a Griffin Armament blast shield. More expensive than the 9mm, but a little more capacity, and by the reporting, even less recoil.

Maybe something that's a more reliable choice than a rimfire semi-auto, while filling the same (questionable?) niche.

I can see the appeal for such a gun in 5.7x28, so long as the 5.7x28 Gold Dots actually perform well. But I think it's highly unlikely that any such duty ammo will exist in 4.6mm anytime soon, if ever. I'd also be concerned about magazine reliability and vetting such a gun overall.
My younger sister and my mother both fall into this category as well, but I'm leaning toward an SP9A3 roller-locked Stribog instead if that solution goes toward a braced pistol of some kind.

I'm also considering a 10/22 Charger pistol with a brace and red dot, vetted with Ruger magazines and CCI minimags, or veering upward toward a lightweight 11.5in AR in 5.56 with a proper gas port and sensible muzzle device.
