They come up with some interesting ideas on this rifle. It has a vertical safety, quick change barrel and bolt head (for easy caliber change), semi-control feed action, a very unique take on the plunger ejector, lockable magazine that can be top loaded, and adjustable trigger. The "Trail" version seems like it could be a great truck gun/ varmint calling rifle.
I hope these turn out to be good rifles. On the down side, it looks like the 527 is discontinued.

Currently only listed in .223 and 7.62x39 on their website, weird.

Pretty heavy for what they are. I don't see them taking a huge chunk out of the Tikka-build market.

No more 527? Oh, that’s sad.
I got one in 7.62x39 this summer after wanting one for a few years. I’m glad I got it, especially now, but it has only made me want more (.223 etc).

LUX (https://cz-usa.com/product/cz-600-lux/) looks interesting from the photo…
Seems heavy for the specs… 8+ lbs? M70 featherweight (https://www.winchesterguns.com/products/rifles/model-70/current/model-70-featherweight.html) is over a pound less…
If 527 is discontinued I imagine the secondhand market for them will get a boost.

I like the idea of a lightweight folding bolt action rifle. Sig Cross, CZ 600, etc…. But to me, the refinement is not there yet. I like the chassis and folding stock on the Cross, but hear the hinge lock wiggles over time. I like the bolt action design and refinement on a Tikka better than a Cross or 600 also. Now if a company would develop a lightweight folding chassis, I might be interested. Especially for a Tikka action.

It looks interesting, and with significant potential.
The discontinuation of the CZ 527 is unfortunate. It provided exceptional value and performance with old-world workmanship and materials. I'm a little surprised that no one, CZ or aftermarket, ever came up with a quality 10 round magazine for it, but the OEM 5 rounders were well made and not unreasonably priced.
If any 527s are still in the pipeline, if you've got the urge for one I'd definitely snap them up. I strongly suspect their price on the seondary market will massively surge in short order.
Best, Jon

I like the look of this one. Hopefully the street price puts it under $1k. I think it would be handy and fairly light with a LPVO.

This is perfect timing, I have a bunch of old .30-06 that needs a host along with a 2-7 Mueller Multi-Shot (not a bad value scope for the money) to mount atop it. I was looking at the Beretta straight pull bolt design they are coming out with but the price tag is just stupid on that one for how much 'actual' use this would see. Mostly would be there on the off chance I get to go deer hunting, lol. I've always loved CZ rifles and I'm sure these will not disappoint either. Everybody mourns when CZ discontinues something but I believe it's mostly an upgrade when they do and you don't really lose any quality or craftsmanship... mostly just using more advanced process and developments I believe.

I was thinking an LPVO or a 2nd Trijicon Credo 2-10 or similar. I have the latter scope on a DMR style AR and it is perfect. Only 23oz, with a light fixed mount it would be a perfect match of weight and magnification. Either way, a 2-10 ish scope would be ideal for a gun like this, especially if you could get one that was nice and lightweight. I could also live with a 1-8 or a 1-10 too, but I think for my purposes wouldn't really need true 1x mag for this kind of gun. 2-2.5 would be perfect low end mag, upper range 10-12. Scope, rings, QD bipod (Magpul?), K2 pistol grip, done.
Alternatively could skip the bipod and just live with a 1-8x LPVO ... hmm..

So the question is with the trail with say a one to 8 LPVOBA “scout rifle”
I would say yes, especially if they chambered in a slightly more powerful but still “AR” sized round such as 6.5 Grendel or 6 mm ARC.

There may not be any loss of quality but one of the attractions that led me to get a 527 was the classic styling.
The 600 series may not give up anything in terms of quality or even performance but they are FUGLY in a uniquely euro trash way.

Definitely. I think with a .223 I probably will lean in the direction of a 1-nx LPVO with an emphasis on low weight. The 2-10 option is attractive, however; Primary arms has a PI made 2.5-10 that is affordably priced and lightweight. The trijicon really isn't that much more than the PA, though, and I do really love the one I have.

Me too. It will probably replace my 233 MVP and Ruger 223 GSR.

So I almost took the plunge on buying a 600 Alpha in .30-06 yesterday. What gave me some pause was the 14" LOP, actually it would have likely been paid already were it not for this. This seems too long for someone around 5"7" with short arms but then again it's not an AR that will be running and gunning. Seeing it mainly used in the field with makeshift shooting positions or prone at the range. I find so many conflicting views on LOP, it leaves me feeling like theres no way but trial and error to be sure. Measuring from the old 'crook of the arm' leaves me right around 13.5" but I run my AR at just over 11".
It seems the longer you go the more you likely give up in general use from various positions, I see Jeff Cooper is on record for using 12" at 6'2" which by many would be considered short for his size. I have a Benelli Super Nova Tactical with pistol grip that is 14.5" and I'm not sure if I can use that well enough to gauge how the length will play with me as it's a shotgun. I don't expect to be able to find any of these Alpha's locally unless Bass Pro happens to get them or I ask the LGS around to call me if they receive any. I also emailed CZ about how one might reduce the LOP after purchase with parts or gunsmithing. So I'm stumped.
Seems the easy button is the Remington 700 w/ Magpul stock for .30-06 but I hate the idea of anything Remington with their quality issues. I am also looking at T3X Lite from Tikka but I wish it were a threaded barrel as I intend to get a suppressor for this in time. The CZ just checks so many boxes for me and at under $650 after FFL fees I don't see how I can do better for the money. This is a major factor because I don't see this getting used much at all, mainly just getting it to have that long range/heavy caliber box checked... despite being in a very heavily wooded AO. Thoughts?

Have you considered the Benelli Lupo in 30-06?
Can't speak to it's specs, but it's the most comfortable 30-06 I've shot thanks to the Benelli stock. Plus it's got a 5/8th threaded barrel.
Doesn't get much, if any press. However it's probably the only 30-06 I'm going to keep.

Unfortunately not currently.
I got bit by the 30-06 bug a couple of years ago. Started with a new production Win 70. That gun was absolutely horrible. I could never get it slighted in, I ran out of windage quickly. Sent it back to the factory, they ended up replacing the entire rifle.
While it was off getting inspected I tried a buddies Weatherby Vanguard. Not bad, would almost certainly work well as a hunting rifle. By that I mean the first couple of shots are nice and tight but starting at shot number 3 it goes from minute of angle to minute of broadside of barn.
Got the new Winchester in and found a Hornady load it absolutely loves. But yet again after about 3 shots it really opens up big time.
I tried the Benelli on a whim. I've shot several of their shotguns with good effect. I'm glad I did. It's still a hunting gun also and not a target rifle. However it holds its groups together for much longer than the other two rifles I mentioned above.

Good info, thanks. I definitely want something which is capable of more than a few shots before it spews a bunch of shit. The CZ has a semi-heavy barrel which is nice there, how many rounds would you say it takes to really open up?

Going off memory, it's been several months since I've shot it, I'd say somewhere between 6 to 10 shots. If the weather wasn't bad this weekend I'd take it out and test it for you.

No worries, I'm actually thinking I'm going to put this on the backburner for a bit and just try to be patient until someone here or elsewhere has firsthand reports on the CZ. You've definitely got my interest in the Benelli, would love another Benelli to match my Super Nova. How exactly does the LOP adjustment work? I can't find anything specific on their website... do you know what range of LOP you can setup?

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't actually even know you could adjust the LOP. I've just been shooting it the way it came from the factory. If it's anything like their shotguns it's probably going to be with spacers. There are no obvious knobs, bolts, leevers, to adjust that I can see

You are correct. I was hoping it would go the other way but it allows you to increase LOP.

Went by Bass Pro today, no CZ's of any kind... I don't think they ever carry CZ's from what I've seen. They did have a couple of the Benelli Lupo's in the rack along with a few Tikka T3X's. I didn't bother looking at any of them at the moment because I'm going to play the long game and have some patience on the CZ reports coming out. The Benelli looks super nice but the price tag is hard to swallow, under $1k would be a no brainer but I'm having trouble paying that for something I really won't use much.

I can but have a hard time trusting the action as they are known to have a safety flaw in the trigger that allows for accidental firing. Am I incorrect in remembering this also?
I am also leery of buying secondhand rifles because of the tinkering factor and I'm not qualified to know what's been tampered with myself.

CZ-USA has learned that if the barrel is improperly installed, it is possible that the rifle could still be fired, but potentially result in a catastrophic failure. Excellent news, assuming it brings the street price down on these rifles. i'd still like one if they drop a bit, the idea of changing calibers was nice but not something I anticipate using anytime soon.

They were selling on caliber conversions but the real advantage would be ease of replacement. Not everybody shoots a rifle enough to wear out a barrel or even knock off the "gilt edge" though.
