All the talk in the test gun thread about springs has brought some questions back up in my mind. As some of you know I am shooting CZ Shadows as my competition guns. In looking at my records my old match gun only had one recoil springs replacement in 60,000 rounds, two trigger springs, 2 extractor springs and the 13lb hammer springs was never changed. Recoil springs were 11lb ones. The gun still functions just fine, I don't notice any velocity difference on the slide vs my new gun, and feeding is no problem either. Casings eject the same as the new gun. Now mag springs, different story. I run Wolfe mag springs, extra power ones, and there is no consistency with them at all. Some last a full year, others are few months. Once they start to twist I know hey are toast. QC on them seems to be non existent.
So what questions do I have about springs after all that? Well, I want to know if anyone tests their springs to see what the actual weight of them is? If so, how do you test them? Do you have any home built test units you can share design of? When testing springs do you compress all the way to determine how strong they are, half way or does it depend on the spring type and design?

I don't test anything but if it helps at all I have always suspected that most magazine springs are not properly designed in that they will be loaded too much when filled to marked capacity or marked minus 1 or 2.
