View Full Version : Has There Been a Fix to Gen 5 Glock Trigger Issues?

Like the title states, has there been any definite fixes to the trigger getting gritty after a 1000 rounds or so?
I tried to look for any threads on the topic, but the couple that I did find didn't really have any straight answers.
Now that the Gen 5's have been in circulation for a while, has there been an answer to what exactly the problem was? And how to fix it?
I haven't experienced the issue yet, but figured I would get ahead of the problem and have whatever replacement parts are necessary on hand.
Thanks

I didn't even know there were issues.

I've likely had 4000 rounds through my Gen 5 G19 and god knows how many dry fire reps.
The only thing I've noticed about the trigger is less resistance on the take up (it's been a while since I dry fired a new G19), and the walls in the trigger press have smoothed out.
I'd say shoot/dry fire it to the 1000 round mark, then consider replacing/changing parts if your trigger needs it.

It’s not a universal issue. It’s been limited to certain guns and appears to have been the result of bad / out of specification batches of parts.
Glock parts are cheap. If the issue develops gutting the gun and replacing the internals is cheap, assuming they are available. Another reason to buy and keep spares on hand.

As HCM said, I believe the issue is due to a bad batch of parts. I’ve run one Gen5 G19 to about 3k rounds and another to 4-5k. I never had issues with the trigger becoming worse. Mine smoothed out and became better with use. I have a recently produced Gen5 G26 that has only reached about 700 rounds but it’s fine too. Half of federal law enforcement is carrying some variation of the Gen5 Glock nowadays too. I haven’t heard about any widespread issues with triggers becoming grittier. I know it was an issue for a couple of members here but, like every other gun problem reported on the internet, the fact that we’re all talking about it makes it appear much more widespread than it actually is.

I haven't heard mention of any recent Gen5 trigger problems. My first 19.5 had a bad trigger bar which I replaced after ~2,500 rounds. That pistol has about 8,000 rounds though it with no additional problems. My carry gun only has about 1,500 round through it, and it shows no signs of problems.

I’ve ran a few Gen5s up through 5K rounds and all of them were noticeably heavier and gritty by 2K rounds but they didn’t get any worse.
They’re generally awesome right out of the box though.

Since M2 is the ultimate Glock "breaks things tester," this is a strong indication they are now GTG.

Thanks to all the replies, that's good to know.
If my Glocks do experience any of these issues from the bad batch, is there a thread here with a list of what to replace?
I remember reading about trigger bars, some type of channel liner, and I think I remember mention of a plunger or cups. I can't find where I read that now.

I'm no expert, but I'd suggest looking at the Johnny Glock video "Chasing Grit Grind and Drag". He goes through a list of the common issues wrt Glock trigger groups and the typical problem/solution areas for each.

You can try and avoid issues by ensuring you use Glock factory parts, they are assembled correctly (e.g. the Trigger Bar is inserted properly into the stirrup of the Trigger Mechanism Housing, the Extractor Depressor Plunger is fitted steel on steel/plastic on plastic, that sort of thing). I was told when I attended my first Armorer Class in August that Glock had to stop sale of spares due to the demand for guns (our instructor quoted I think Glock delivered 2M (2M!!) guns in 2020.) I did see where they recently turned the tap on again, so you "should" be able to get stocks of common wear items such as connectors, trigger bars, etc. etc. The curse of Glocks is that they are made of cheap, stamped steel parts; but of course, the beauty of Glocks is that they are made of cheap, stamped steel parts. If you have a problem with a Glock, $20 worth of parts and a decent cleaning should cure most issues. :)
A good cleaning with Lucas Contact cleaner, followed by Hornady OneShot resolves gritty Glock trigger, in my experience.

I have roughly 2000 through my 17.5 and 1000 through my 45 with no problems. I am glad this seems to be resolved.
I have a 19, 17 bought in early 2019 and 19X bought this past Feb. I don't know how many rounds through them but the 17 has been to a few classes and the 19 to a lot or range trips. Neither has trigger issues. The 19X is still probably under 1000 rounds but no problems
